What are the differences in these 1/4 impacts?

I have a co worker with the 10.8 Makita 1/4 impact. He loves it and so do i! I use it all the time. I need to replace my 1/4 impact and figure ill buy the Makita. I came across two seemingly identical units with one being 10.8v and one being 12v. They look to be the same size and power. Which one should i buy?

Dunno. Hitachi marks some of their 10.8v stuff as 12v Peak. Seems like the "running" HP rating that you sometimes see on compressor motors...

FWIW I have a Hitachi 10.8v impact driver that I freaking love. Bought it reconditioned from BigSky Tool for a good price.

I can understand wanting a small pistol one, but you can get a short nose 18v in nearly every brand. My Dewalt 18v LI weighs only 3.5lbs and is a shorter snub than those smaller ones

1400in/lbs. Paid $160 for it with 2 batteries and charger when on sale

If you want a good one for small spaces find a Rigid right angle. They are discontinued but are GREAT for tight places. Or a JobMax

Well it looks the difference is marketing. 10.8 is the actual voltage of the Makitas. They changed the name to 12v max as thats what the surface charge is. Seems the older models are called 10.8 while the newers are 12v max...or so im told.

I'm pretty sure this is it. Almost all of the 10.8v stuff has been renamed to 12v without any real changes. As far as I know, the batteries are interchangeable on most models too.

FWIW, I have the 12v drill/driver (the one shown in the LCT314W kit, with the actual drill chuck). It's a handy little booger. I'm tempted to get the impact driver to go with it.

If you're looking at only those two combos, I like the ability to use a non-hex drill bit which the LCT314W kit allows.

I really only want the impact...i just figured the drill could come in handy. I typically use an air drill. Those small impacts are best thing to come around in a long time!

Ok back on track now knowing you ARE talking about getting the combo.

The keyless chuck the 12v comes with is the selling point to me. I have the M12 combo and honestly user that more than my Dewalt 18v, Dewalt 20v, and makita 18v combos put together. And the 3/8 chuck keyless vs the 1/4 will come handy at some point.
