First off what are the things in the brass tubes in the first 2 pictures? These got me stumped. I went to a sale and got some neat things, filled up my 5 gal bucket and got these and about 15 lbs of punches, dies, taps bits etc. $10 for the full bucket. She didn't even want to look through the bucket, she seemed surprised I wanted the "scraps" left by others as I call them.

The first two pics look like stamps to put decorative designs in metal. Pretty damn cool if you as me. The rest of the items are pretty well self explanatory.........hammers scribes, letter stamps, wire gages, and so on.

Yes, it is the first 2 pictures I am stumped on but maybe they are for metal work.

The first picture looks like the tins are full of Leather Tooling. They might be for metal stamping, but I can't say for sure.

Marty: you paid too much again. i guess you are made of money so why not. seriously those number and letter stamps look complete and those alone sell for quite a bit. those hammer's handles are just damn cool and Kevin might have the answer on the little metal pieces.

congrats again.

The cool handled hammers are called "german chasing hammers".
The first can has stamps for texturing. I wouldn't use them on steel, but they'd work well on leather or copper sheet.
The second can looks to have rivet sets, and other neat punches.

Oh, and you totally ****!

Just pulled this out of the bucket, it seems to go with the punches. It has some kind of hard rubber. I thought it was a sharpening stone before I opened it. And the punches are stamped.

I never gave leather stamps a though but I do remember back in industrial arts in high school making a belt and using stamps to put the decorations into the leather.

Not to argue with any experts, but I am betting the stamps are more for Repoussé and metal decoration. They look to be hardened steel. Three of hammers are chasing hammers (engraving). Most of the old binders and tooling stamps came out of Philadelphia (Wm. ROSE) or Sheffield England. Tandy leathercraft later flooded us with chinneese stuff. One of them is marked made in France, a country known for thier metal and Repoussé work for the last 400 years.

Very neat and cool find! Please look for more stamps and or identification marks!

William, I think you are correct. I did a lot of searching and Repousse tools seem to be what they are. Here is a completed listing of 20.
Thanks again.

Marty,

If you decide to sell the repousse tooling, please let me know via PM.
I do some jewelry making and could use the texture stamps for brass and copper.

Are you sure that the item in the box isn't a sharpening stone. Looks like a white arkansas one to me. How big is the box?
