When I was searching for a new jack I saw in a few catalogues these really tall jack stands. Like four or five feet tall. What are they used for? Extra safety for if a lift fails?1000001965.jpg

I have some pipe stands that go up to about 4-5 feet or so, I'll often use two of them, one on either side of a vehicle and put a heavy pipe across them, sort of a make-shift gantry crane. Comes in handy if you work alone, when mocking up some vehicle parts, you can suspend them in the air, and use clamps and **** to hold things while you measure or whatever you need to do. It's overkill sometimes, but having the ability to mock something up, then walk around it and look at things is nice :)

Also used for shock/spring service on rear wheel drive vehicles. I have one for use on my single post in ground lift.
