Hey guys, here is a set of wrenches that I found locally. They are asking $150 for the pile.

Are they worth what they are asking? I need a SAE set of open's to match the metric Snap On's I bought a few months ago.

How old? I haven't looked at them yet. Sizes 5/8 to 1-1/2

Thanks all!

I would say those are worth more than $15....I would pay some where between $50-$100 for them.

Those are some pretty big sizes over 1" so I'd say they are definitely worth at least $50 if not well more.

Needs got nothing to do with it. :)

I am going to go take a look at them. Maybe offer 50 bucks. See what happens.

i bought a set of SAE and Metric line wrenches that all have that style for a total of $100. i was like NOOOO i overpaid big time! lol

Actually, I don't think Merkava_4 would touch those wrenches with a ten foot Dremel polishing attachment. Too old school and too used.

Those are the old V-ditched wrenches; not very desirable. I'd say they're worth $15 for the set.

I am wondering why you don't like and think the "Hour-glass" Cross Section Snap-On Wrenches are worth so little? I have a set of 30/60 degree Open-End wrenches that I bought while working in the Aircraft Industry. When these were superseded I supprised. I always liked the feel and when they get oily or greasy they are easier to hold on to using the "Hour-glass" shape. A conventional shape would be harder to hold...

Cheers

Even though I don't care for double open end wrenches, $100. would be a fair price. Even at $150. you are not getting robbed so if he takes $100 or less you are doing ok.

Likely right, but that handle design is one of the best looking ones Snap-on ever made, at least to me. I would prefer those to whatever open ends are being sold from the truck today.

Worth no more no less than any good quality used wrench noting wrong with them at all, only issue is broken tool replacement.

I don't think there is such a thing as a "second tier" Snap On marked tool. Their 2cd line tools would be marked Blue Point.

If a person likes open end wrenches, go for them, but I have only one or two Snap On open end wrenches, and very seldom use the open ends of my combination wrenches. The only time I would use them, or my 4 way angle head wrenches was on hydraulic, or injection line fittings.

If I said the set was worth $200, then I'd get accused of being a Snap-on lover......you can't win for losing around here. :shocking:

You're not alone with that opinion UB. I'd try in the $75-100 range 'cause I'm cheap, but $150 probably isn't far off for a reasonable buy if you really want them - there's some big wrench ends in there.

Ok, thanks to everyone who responded. I am going to take a look at them tomorrow.

Merk, I am a little disappointed man! I was really looking for an answer. I understand that they were worth more than $15, but I assumed that they weren't worth anywhere near the asking price. I am new to buying Snap-On tools and I wanted to make sure that I was not getting ripped off due to the Snap-On name.

Next time I ask, I really mean it. Really! Glad they are still there. I am going to shoot for $75 and see what happens.

Powderkeg - No hijack there man. You were right on topic!

Thanks to everyone who set me straight on the value.

I will post better pics if I pick them up.

Thanks!

I've been building a set of these slowly on ebay, they usually cost me about 10-15/wrench.I've got 3/4 up to 1 1/4 so far.Still looking for 11/16 and down if anyone has them and wants to sell/trade em.Would really love a set of the angled version of this style.

We'll, you'll need to finish out that set with these:

And you've got to add the double box set:

Then you've got to get the matching line wrenches:

And as long as you''re at it you'll need a set of these:

Geez.......I freakin' stepped in a mine field with this thread. :eek2:

No you were just trying to buy a cool set of matched wrenches at a bargain discount.

In Elroy's humble opinion, $5 each for the smaller one a $10 each on a few of the larger one. A $100 would a great deal. Even a $120+ would be a good deal if no marks or rust.

As Buck pointed out:

that handle design is one of the best looking ones Snap-on ever made.......I would prefer those to whatever open ends are being sold from the truck today.

Yep ! Them thar are plain ole righteous when it comes to the looking GOOD department!

They are in nice shape overall. Some chrome flaking off the tips of some.

Guess I will have to get with Rickster on the fillers...

You did well.

Curious, why do you like the double open end? I've never been a fan of them, always liked combo's but have been buying double box ends lately cause they look cool.

Guess that's why there is chocolate and vanilla!!!
