What are these specialty Channellocks for?

Came across a small lot of tools today, including these pliers. Could barely make out the "Channellock" inscription, as they are chunky/rusty. Though I think an Evaporust soak and mild polishing should bring them back to glory. Though the handle grips have seen better days. Might have to heat shrink tube those.

Says a #548. What were these specialty pliers used for?

Looks like just an old pair of regular slip joints. Just a older style. Kind of matches Matco design of slip joints. After a quick Google search it looks like that is what they are they also have a wire cutting spot on them.

Try wiping the handles with lacquer thinner, cleans them up great. I'd glassbead the rusty part, then wirewheel it to put some shine on the bare metal & finish up with buzzing parts of it with a fiber deburring wheel on a bench grinder.
