What are these?

Black box, crinkle finish, no markings. Large center rods are threaded at one end, and have a parallel cut on the other (as if to take a wrench). Knurled mid sections slide up and down the large center rods.

I've seen a fair number of tools, and these have me baffled.

Would love to hear from the experts about what these are.
