Anyone know what these are? I picked them up at an auction, both for $5. I figured if I can't use them for whatever they are intended, I can cut them and have 8 commercial casters and some decent 2" square tubing for welding projects.

But still curious as to what they might be.

looks to me like to much work to get the small casters off and cut the tubing up to make it worthwhile.

I'd have paid a lot more than five bucks for them just for the scrap... It's well worth the 15 minutes it would take to cut them up.

Looks like they could be modified easily for all sorts of things. Rolling shelves or work stand, on and on. Kinda wish I had one.

I would have paid 5 dollars just to scrap them for the 2" steel tubing.

That is the main reason I bought them. That gauge 2" square tubing isn't cheap in my area. I can get 4 x 4ft sections plus some smaller pieces from those carts; just one 4ft piece would cost me in the $15 range.

Unless these carts turn out to be the coolest "tool", which I am not seeing at the moment, they will be for future welding projects.

Looks too heavy for exercise equipment but who knows. Unless I had an immediate use for the rolling bases I usually would cut them into semi clean lengths for future projects as I don't have much storage space. Nice score.

They're clearly designed so the base and wheels slide underneath something so the post with the index holes in it can get close enough to lift something out.

As someone else said, might be homemade engine lifts.

I got many things at this auction, it was all industrial equipment from places like Bombardier or Bell Helicopter, that had overstock to get rid of. Some of it was also from places closing down. None of the stuff looked like anything homemade, all industrial weight stuff.
