I got these 2 tools in a mixed box of tools at an auction today. At first glace, i thought they were screwdrivers. the tips are triangle shaped, and fairly sharp. the collars slide down and seem to be sharpened. possible to cut something?
if they are cutters, whatever they cut would be a hole about 5/16"
any ideas? Thanks

Thanks for the quick answer! I had tried googling a lot of things, but medical didn't even cross my mind. Now I just have to figure out what to do with them. Don't think unlicensed surgery is a good idea.

After your explanation, I googled them. Not something i would have expected. Rural auction, so I guess livestock related. At least I hope so. :)
Thanks

I was going to say bearing scrapers, but the sleeves indicate PelicanPines is correct. When I was a kid in the 70's and my family lived in the far east, I read that gangs used bearing scrapers as weapons because the triangular hole they left behind wouldn't close up on its own and stuckee usually bled out.

Yes, they're trocar and cannula used for livestock. I have one exactly the same as the metal handled one and saved the lives of a few cattle and sheep with it over the years. Used in emergency as a last resort (by someone trained) when they have eaten too much of the wrong stuff and filled with gas so they can't breathe. You can let the gas out of the stomach quickly.. that's probably enough detail but for those interested there's more here:

As a paramedic in a Level 1 trauma center, both as a first responder and an educator, I've seen them used on trauma victims, you better be standing to the side when the trauma surgeon removes the stylet so the usually-under-pressure blood and air can escape.

Since mention was made of a rural setting, I expect that veterinary use is to be expected, unless some Bonnie & Clyde pair forces the vet's hand...

And you definitely want to stand out of the way when the trocar does its job!

Didn't Arnold use one of those to kill the guard during the torture scene in True Lies?

"....then I'm going to kill this guard over there...with the Patterson trocar on the table..."
