What are these?

I picked up some threaded aluminum pieces, not sure what they are for. They are labeled 1, 2, 3, 4, & 8, although the threaded size doesn't really follow the numbering.

Any guesses?

I replaced a string trimmer head once. The new "fits all" came with an assortment of similar adapters but I don't remember there being that many.

I don't think so, the way the numbers are marked doesn't suggest a class project.
