What are your thoughts? My Heater

O.K. so I have 2 electric G73 Dayton heaters hanging in my garage that I ONLY use when I am out there for any length of time working on something. They are OFF all other times.

I had my garage guy come back and build a wall to seperate a car bay off. I had all my heaters OFF like normal. I come home from work and he is heating the garage every day he works in there...........Temps without the heat on are about 35-40 degrees inside the garage.

Today I have another guy coming out to put the garage door on (the inside inner bay door) so he will be out of the weather, working inside. I went out this morning and unplugged my heaters at the ceiling and left the chord hanging so that he hopefully does not use them.

Is is just me.....or why the hell do these people think they have the right to turn my heat on all day??? It's different if you asked me.

Because it's there, and why would they work in the cold if they don't have to??
You could be a nice guy and heat it to 50* or so for them.

O.K.- I am just the type of person that would NEVER do that so it's hard to understand why others would.

I am glad they don't drive my hot rods, Harley and John Deere "because they're there too..........."

I would just ask them, "Please do not run the heat. Thanks."

Or like someone else said, keep it on low.

Yeah, I'd ask up front to not run it, or set it at 50 - 55 and ask that they dont touch the t-stat.

I had a vacant rental property with all utilities turned on, it was the middle of winter and I had a contractor come over when I wasn't there to fix some major plumbing issues. I was on the road, and didn't get back in town for afew days. When I get back to the check on the rental and the work, the t-stat was on 73 ! Was the guy working in there naked ??? I mean this was a drafty old empty house with the gas heat running at 73 for afew days. I called the company and told them I wasn't happy with the heat being turned on, I had it set at 50, and if the plumber was cold, he could have turned it up abit, but should have left it like he found it. They adjusted my plumbing bill, but from now on, I always state up front not to jack with the temp, and turn the lights out.

Yeah, the guy was not in his right to use the heat. How do you know he didn't use your other stuff?

If I was in there doing work, I would ask the homeowner to put the heat up a bit, before taking the liberty to turn it up myself.

Well I went home last night and the garage door guy was finishing up. Real nice guy. He put a new door on our attached garage (no heat) and in my 50x30 garage which has heat.

I said, "Hey, I noticed you didn't use my heaters." He chuckles and said "I work outside all year around, installing garage doors. I don't expect garages to be heated." Said he never even thought about turning them on.

I told him about the other garage guy that was doing work and he turned them on. He waid he was a "whimp..." I had to laugh.

There is no way that I would turn the heat on if I was working in someone else's garage.I would not even ask to use it.But I would not refuse the heat if the homeowner offered to turn it on for me.

We've got a cabin that we got to a few weekends during the summer months. The next door neighbor was having a new house built after losing the original to a fire. Anyway, we came up one Friday night in time to see that her contractors were plugging their extension cords into my outdoor electrical outlets. Hows that for helping yourself? Not even my contractors!

I had that happen a couple years ago - there was a crew working on the roof of the rental property next door, and when I came home from work I found an extension cord plugged in to the outlet on my back porch.

Since it was plugged into my house, I figured it was my extension cord. So, I rolled it up and locked it in the garage.

The first guy had no right to turn on the heat.
but if I had someone coming over to work in my garage I would turn up the heat for him just to be nice.
but I keep my garage at 50 24-7.
