Looking for a 3/8 impact only one I have looked at is the craftsman and the dewalt. Any of you recommend a good one price range would be $200 and down for impact battery and charger.

The Milwaukee M12 Fuel is an excellent choice too, depending on your usage. Less torque than the M18, but much more compact.

Snap 1/2" here has 9 year old batteries and still cracks my super duty lug nuts off.

What do you want to do with it ?

I wouldn't think about either of your choices for removing lug nuts !

I have m18 non fuel impact driver, with the chuck, so you can use any size adapter you need. Spec'd in inch pounds though, so definitely not for bull work. Speeds up take offs and put ons. Just purchased the m12 3/8 ratchet "stick", and so far, really like it for the jobs where only a ratchet will fit. Again, not a bull work tool- specs out at 35 ft lbs. Just used it to mount shocks on f-150, and worked like a charm on the top and bottom fasteners.

Boy, I'd love to know where you can get Snap On and M18s for $200!

I bought a 18 volt 3/8 snapon with both batteries and charger for 150 at the pawnshop...couple years old though...and bought my d ewalt 20 volt hammer drill and impact driver with two 3.0 AH batteries and charger for 200 from another pawn shop...and these were brand spanking new too

Love how everyone reads the title but not the details and it turns into another "I love my Snap-On! I love my M18 Fuel!" fest:D

If you're looking for more small work, like where you'd only need a 3/8" air impact wrench but don't want to wrestle an air hose in, 12v would be a good choice. I only have experience with the Dewalt and Milwaukee lines, so that's all I can recommend.

Dewalt 12v Max Kit (DCF813S2) - $134.99

Milwaukee M12 Fuel Kit (2454-22) - $199.99

I've used both, and they are great. The Dewalt is what made me decide to get into 12v tools, as it was much smaller & lighter than my Dewalt 18v impact driver. I bought the M12 because of the great variety of tools in the line, and upgraded the 3/8" to the larger batteries.

Most anything bigger (that is worth your money) will be going over budget (Dewalt 20v, M18 Fuel). Even the older Dewalt 18v & M18 stuff is over $200 for a kit. If you shop around, you should be able to find a better deal though.

If you're not in a huge hurry, Home Depot and others regularly have deals on the Milwaukee M12/M18 tools where you buy one kit, and get another bare tool for free. The deals come up pretty often, and are worth the wait.

I know it's stretching the budget, but here is the M18 Fuel for $229 shipped

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313&_nkw=fuel+3/8+impact&_sacat=0&_from=R40

I have one and a porter cable 18v, it's no comparison. I don't use it to take off lugnuts, but tried it out just to see, it spun off some F150 lugnuts easily, and rusty/no anti-seize lugnuts off a car trailer without struggling. It's pretty amazing. I let it impact tightening for a couple seconds and checked torque and it came in around 100ftlbs so it's very stout tightening as well, I'm sure it would get them close to 150ftlbs if you let it sit and hammer.

I have a 12v Dewalt impact as well, it is handy, but they're nowhere close on power. Granted I don't pull out the Fuel to take suspenions apart, but it's very nice having the power when I need it rather than having to stop and break out a ratchet/breaker to break something loose. The variable power trigger and multiple speeds mean you can tone down the 18v, the only advantage is the 12v is more maneuverable.

I just got the m12 Fuel 3/8" impact wrench and I love it. It handles the lug nuts on all of our Mazdas just fine but those are all under 100 ft-lbs. I haven't got around to trying it on the Suburban yet.

It also fits almost anywhere due to the compact size.

Best of all Home depot has it on special right now, I got the 3/8" ratchet for free.
