Tried to search, sorry for another vise thread.

A friend was moving out and gave this to me a while ago. I was wondering if its worth the time to clean it up, since I dont have a bench vise. Or should I get rid of it since I was planning on buying a good used one anyway.

there are no markings, 6 inch jaws. I havent tinkered with it much but it is a little sloppy/loose. Its rattlecanned REd. the castings are kind of bad in some places and look to be bondo over, or thick paint :headscrat? that square top is really beat up and marred by hammer strikes and other stamped on ****. Looks like it was outside a bit from the rust on the bottom.

I probably pass it on to another friend or unload it for like 20$ unless its worth cleaning up.

thanks

That bondo/paint mixture is another hallmark of chinese stuff. The quality of some items is just so bad that they have to fill voids in the castings before it can be sent off to market.

At least some of the american supervised/mfg items have more strict CQ so they don't look as bad before being finished.

Whack some of those blisters with a hammer and see what happens:lol:

I don't see anything that needs to be cleaned up. It was free bolt it down and use it. Good chance you'll never need to replace it.

its just a vise from China. I just got a bigger version of that. That rubber coating is some sort of rubberize filler. I stripped mine down to bare steel and man they didnt finish casting to good, really rough. Its nothing great just like mine but free so use it. FYI I wont bang it to hard with hammer I use a old railroad track from that.

China.......I have a blue one from HF called a "Shark Vice".......I guess even sharks have bad habits. Mine is cracked but I still use it for grinding and painting work.

thanks guys. I guess Ill just leave it for now and use it.
This site always brainwashes me, I was reading the Vise thread and saw all the prestine restorations. If I bought a nicer one i would probably feel bad getting it messy. I guess Ill buy a showpiece Vise later on and use this for crappy jobs. lol
