what brand for breaker box?

Getting ready to install the power finally to the barn. Looked at all the breaker boxes and got really confused as to what brand is better. Most of the big box stores carry Sd or ge or some other ones..Want one that I can get breakers readily available..any Ideas

What make do you have in your home? Keeping everything the same is good practice unless it's Zinsco/Sylvania, Federal Pacific, or ITE Pushmatic, or other obslolete make.

I would stay away from the GE residential grade stuff.

Square D or Cutler-Hammer

These would be my first two recommendations/choices.

I prefer Square D QO type, not Homeline. QO is their top line for home applications. The breakers have red trip windows sow you get a positive ID of a breaker trip.

i like square D but for panels they all seem about the same. ive never had a problem with siemens, cutler hammer, or any other brand on a residential level. now dont get me started on a siemens switch gear i had to wire up, i hated siemens for years after that.

I would go with Square D QO and not the Homeline version.

I would get whatever is cheapest. I have wired up and installed maybe 6 panels and everytime I got the cheapest one that was big enough for my needs. This has always been square D or a GE. I have never had a problem with any of them or really ever even needed to open them up after the install since I sized the breakers correctly and planned the circuits out properly. I used to work in a shop where the electrical was all messed up and we tripped breakers daily. The shop was rented and neither my boss nor the owner wanted to fix it. Other than that I don't think I have ever tripped breakers at my house or my workshop. I just tend to look at the panels as a set it and forget it type thing. GE, Square D, Cutler, Siemens, thesse are all major companies and it is all UL tested. I don't think any of them are putting out junk that is going to burn your house down.

UL listed Federal Pacific Electric "Stab-Lok" & Zinsco/Sylvania. Which are the 2 most reviled names in the electrical industry, for that reason alone I have no respect for UL.
