Just as the title says, I cannot believe you cannot use a Sears giftcard at Sears.com, these cards are useless to me as the local stores don't stock the 48 piece thread restorer set and they said they will NOT order it for me. I am done with Sears and Craftsman, I'll pay the premium and order elsewhere.

Soon to be posted in the classified section are Sears gift cards, 2 piece plier set (rebaged cobras) and the hose clamp pliers.

It makes no sense, I have two giftcards, one is $23, it's from a return, they'll take that one. I also have a $50 one that was a gift from my inlaws, that's the one they will not take, theres no PIN number on it, good for in store use only. It does not say that anywhere and they obviously don't tell you that. I googled it and theres a few people with the same situation.

Is there a small sticker type deal to the right of the gift card number covering the PIN number?

Nope, my other one did. Apparently there are two types of cards for some reason. This card has no PIN so no online usage. It does not say anywhere on the card or anywhere on the paper that came with the card. If they are going to sell cards that are not able to be used online they need to make people aware of that. I am more pissed off that my local Sears store won't order me the set after I explained what happened.

I'll get the set for free now, I have access to a pawnshop where I can take whatever Craftsman garbage I want for free, I could have always done this but I don't believe in getting something for nothing, but they want to be assholes about. I'll warranty enough broken Craftsman stuff and resell on Ebay to get my set for free.

1. Use your $50 giftcard to buy something and return it to get giftcard with a PIN. PITA but all stores have stupid policies sometimes....

2. Dibs on the hose clamp pliers (cable kind, right?); depending on the price, of course.

Thats strange; you might call the customer relations hotline for some clarification on the situation. The other idea of return/swap card might be a possibility. Give the hotline a shot and see what they say:

You could go buy a gift card with the pin number and use the one without it to pay for it. :lol_hitti

still a trip to the store but at least you would have a pin.

I do it all the time. The last couple of years I've asked for Sears gift cards for all gift occasions and have ordered quite a few things using giftcards. I have no idea what the issue could be...

I ran into the same problem last year when I tried to order online. I went to our local Sears franchise store and asked what was going on. The owner apologized and said it makes no sense to him to have two types of cards either but he has to sell what he is sent. He just took my card and replaced it with one that had a pin. Just another example of Sears driving away customers with a policy that makes no sense.

Well I looked because i was curious, and all 3 of mine have the pin. I wonder if it is an area based thing. Good luck, and hopefully you can get what you wanted.

Since Sears and Kmart combined, I think Sears is more like Kmart. Lots more junk than there used to be. I was a loyal customer 25 years ago but now I rarely go in their store and never buy online. The only Craftsman tools I buy now are on eBay or other online resellers that are a fraction of the price of Sears. Diehard, yea, right, DieEasy if you ask me. Fill your store with overpriced junk and have rules that ****.

I just got bit by this same bogus policy. What a waste of time, they could at least put something on the card that says that it can't be used online.

Strange, I have never had a problem using a gift card online. I got a $1000 one through my Sears Card points and used it all online.

Where did you get the gift card? Is it old or something.

The cards were only a couple of months old, got them as a Christmas present. As discussed earlier in the thread apparently there 2 different flavors of Sears gift cards and sears.com only accepts the ones that have a PIN number.

Are you sure? There should be a scratch off area covering the PIN. It is odd that there is not one. Any idea where the card came from?

I used several hundred worth of Sears gift cards online just last month. No issues. Several different cards, from all across the country, Family is spread out, and all had pins on them.

Our Sears sells two types of gift cards. One with a PIN that can be used online and one with no PIN that cannot be used online. Makes no sense to me but that is what they do.
