Here is southwest Oklahoma, and pole barn construction as stated in the first post. Even that price has gone up considerably. I had my little 24x30 done by the same company as him for $18 a sq ft with concrete. His was right around $20 a sq ft.
Just trying to get clarity on the specific pole barn construction method used. Regardless, if that wasn't the Versatube (carport-style) build, that price is quite cheap nowadays.

This is excellent, far more info than I had hoped for.

Among other things I will also be pricing out a build from Menards, they have a 30x40x14 (1906000) that looks interesting.

I will definitely come back with whatever I find out.

Thanks fellas!

you may want to look really close at finding a place that already has a shop, or at least the start to one.

I am doing all of the work on my barn, got a lot of material for 'free'
Hired out the concrete at 12k total, roof labor at 3k. I will probably be into it for 40-50k and I am doing almost everything myself.

I just finished a 36x36x16 with a 12x36 attached car port/shed roof -- post construction/steel.

Materials alone cost $55K including the 1700 sq ft concrete pad and two 10x10 overhead doors.

With tree removal, dirt work, 300 tons of gravel, labor costs, gutters, electrical service, I'm over $90K. The original budget in 2019 was $60K...all of the cost over run is attributed to increased costs of lumber, steel, concrete, and gravel.

Building material costs are insane right now.

I'm finally getting some quotes back. One kit maker / installer (polebarnsdirect, no aff) at $27-30k installed for a 30x40x14 with 1 man door and 2ea 10x10 insulated doors, 1' overhangs, no floor. I've asked if it includes shipping. This is for a build on a lot zoned agricultural.

Does this sound suitable for northern Ohio weather?

4/12 pitch, 25# ground snow load agricultural trusses

29 ga metal

Trusses spaced 4’ on-center

2x4 roof purlins and wall girts, spaced 2’ on-center

Thanks.

Howdy folks, been a while.

On to a new chapter of my life, maybe. I've been in a small bungalow on a 60x180 lot in town with a 2 car garage with a 8x16 addition on the back - hopefully time to move to a house further out with hopefully a new decent sized outbuilding in the budget.

I'm in the greater Cleveland OH area. I would LOVE a 30x40x14 outbuilding, but things have gotten so expensive lately.

I really won't have time to do too much myself, probably the wiring, and am hoping for a total around $40k not including wiring. I'm not too picky over what type of building.

Is there anything out there even remotely possible? Any advice and comments appreciated.

Thanks

Pete
As it sounds like you plan to move, it may come down to that cities regulations and your lot size...

Around SoCal 40k creates a bunch of people telling you that you can't do anything. However: You can put a tarp next to a freeway without much problems. And maybe have something for contingencies. And the weather is slightly better than Ohio. Slightly. Seriously, we have fwy traffic noise complaints from homeless next to fwys. And, they were addressed! What is next? LAX noise complaints from homeless in Santa Monica? I remember a time when there were just Stewardess's on that beach... And they had condos too.

Rant off. Sorry.

Good luck,
John McA

Fall of 2021

My friends dad had a 30x40x14 built (carport style...whatever you call it)
Fully insulated
3 rollup doors
1 man door
2 windows
Concrete slab (4-5")

$27k all-in

I believe they bought it from Carolina Carports. Concrete work was local guys...only $4k for the slab. My friend prepped the site and bought the gravel though. Concrete guys just threw up the forms, poured, and finished it.

I'm looking at just a 12x35x10, insulated, with 2 rollup doors. $10k for just the building.

Buddy just had a 30x40x14 pole barn put up last month here, with concrete and three roll up doors, for under $25k. Crazy how different prices are across the country.
Wow, I wish prices were like that here!

How long ago was your building completed?

You are in line with me. I had my 40x60x14 put up building and install was $44,925. Excavation, tree removal and dirt work $39,218. Concrete 40x60 slab and 45x30 apron $22, 800. You either want a building and deal with todays prices or not. If you wait it could be double next year.................

I have always liked the metal arched type buildings. They seem ideal for a diy project but all the companies selling them seem to be con artist with act now phony sales. I never looked past these companies to see if any reputable manufacturers who actually made these type buildings were out there.

My how time flies. I FINALLY found a good house.

And I think I've got this together! I'm going for a setback variance next week due to the way my lot's laid out, but the zoning commish says it should be no problem.

What I've got so far:

30x40x14 metal building $19k installed on my slab (inc tax), 2 ea 10x10 doors on the front, 1 ea 7x9 door on the side, and 2 man doors, with bubble wrap on the roof.

Concrete slab to spec / code (I have a 1 to 2 foot elevation change at the location) with spots for a lift and litterally tons of driveway / gravel work $17k

This doesn't include any electrical (or anything else other than building and gravel driveway/walkway). Permitting fees in my town are negligible.

As soon as I get the variance I'll start a build thread with supplier details etc - I'll add a link to it here.

Thanks everyone!

Pete

Definitely need to get quotes for pole barn.
Having 30X40X10 put up by the Amish for mom in late September. No floor (existing gravel), no insulation, house wrap, slider doors on each 30 side. $16,500 plus tearing down ($1600) the old versa tube 30X40 that got burned up. I am making the tractor with loader available and will probably bring some small scaffolding. Was at Menard's today and they had similar pole barn package at $10,999. I surely wouldn't be able to put it up myself timely or properly for $6k. I plan to run wires and lights after they're done.
We're just outside Ft Wayne, NE Indiana.
If you're doing concrete floors than you will definitely be pushing $40k probably over.

Yeah AC a lot is the concrete. Nowadays labor is such a big deal too. My concrete guy is so highly reviewed I'm paying a bit more but with my conctactor experiences over the last 4-5 months.... money well spent (I hope)

Good luck with your project
