So a colleague this past week had to have a new pressure tank installed because of a ripped bladder. He offered me the old one. It's a standard residential fiberglass tank. Anybody make anything cool out of one?
What can I make with this?

Attached is a pic of the tank. I also think I have a use for it.
I pulled out the existing bladder and washed out the inside of the tank. My plan is to put a ball valve on the bottom, build a cart to move it around and then leave the top off. Once that is done I plan to use it to store the school district's waste oil from oil changes. When it comes time to empty it, I will thread a hose onto it and put the pressure top back on. Give it a bit of air and should empty itself out the bottom outlet.
Make sense?

The whole bladder idea is way oversold.
They have had tanks W/O bladders working fine for decades.
My old house had a 50 year old galvanized pressure tank.
No bladder, and it worked just fine.
When I bought my current house 11 years ago the inspector said he thought the bladder in the current tank was torn and offered to have his BIL come replace the tank.
I told him I might call if I ever had a problem.

It is used in a well pump situation. In order to make it so your well doesn't have to run every time anyone so much as cracks a faucet the tank serves as a reservoir. The well pump pumps water up into the tank. The tank has an air bladder inside to provide water pressure (a bladder isn't essential but without it water will absorb the air eventually so it needs to be refilled every so often). After enough water has been used, the pump will kick on and start the whole system again.
As far as the original post. I did decide to use it as a waste oil storage. If anyone is interested I can get pics. Just imagine it sitting on a dolly with a wall mounted funnel above it so that the oil drain pan can be hung up to drip down.
