I don't have many but I want to buy a few basic tools. Currently I only have:

- compression gauge
- multimeter
- test probe
- infrared temp gauge
- Peake research code scanner/reset tool for BMWs

I'm currently looking for a good quality vacuum gauge but don't want to spend $190 on a snap-on :scared: I know Sears has one but its needle goes right to left as opposed to left to right that I'm used to (like the speedometers, tachometers etc) :lol:

What do you guys have and what do you use/recommend the most ?

I've got a multimeter and a fuel pressure tester. Oh, and I have an infared temp thingy for my R/C car, if that counts. :)

I have Peake code reader for BMW. Now I want some OBD2 scanner. I heard that they can show live engine stats. Sensor readings, RPMs, etc.

What is the good budget OBD2 scanner to do that?

mutlimeter(s)
compression tester
leak-down tester
battery load tester
FI fuel pressure
vacuum & carb. fuel pressure
timing light w/ digital tach

VAG-COM (VW & Audi diagnostic software) that also works as an OBD II scanner for most European cars. I've been meaning to get a more generic OBD I & II software package for my laptop which ventures out to the garage from time to time as well as a couple of repair manuals and PDFs installed on ... wireless internet as well.

We had 2 Peake testers (one for the ECM and one for the SRS), but sold them after selling the BMW.

Off the top of my head, in the garage are;
Multiple vacuum gauges
Scangauge code reader
Leak down gauge
Compression gauges
Mechanical oil gages
Amp flow meters
Pentron oscilloscope (want to sell it as I don’t use distributor cars anymore)
Jacobs “dial back to zero” timing light
Tach/dwell meters. I don’t use them anymore but still have them.
Lots of Multimeters
Digital VOM’s
Stethoscope
Edge code reader and Accelerometer
GeForce Accelerometer
Vericom VC200 accelerometer (OK, I like Accelerometers.)
Test lights
Neon test lights for seeking high voltage
Air pressure gauges
Micrometers, go- no go gauges, dial mics inside and outside calipers scales…
Freon ‘sniffers’ (2, don’t recall why I have the second one)
Block check bubbler
Amp gauges
Short detectors
Etc. etc. etc.
And that’s without actually wandering into the garage.
Plus of course;
Many, many manuals and diagnostic software.
And the best one;
The internet.
