Today I took apart a treadmill to put it in the trash. Been setting in the garage for half a year. Left the metal out in the alley for the scraper to take. Rest went in the garbage. Had some good harware I kept.

Re: finishing up the Glide.

New transmission fluid for the 04 Sante Fe, maybe now that whining sound will go away!

From the car - or the wife?? :dunno: :lol_hitti

ha ha...you guys put me to shame. I was so lazy I could not do more than this today. A home for my Picquic trio.

I come here to rest....

well, one week ago my race engine was still in the boring bar, its been a busy week with a many late nights, but I got it fired up yesterday! and all is right with the world! i'm headed up to New England Dragway next week to the NHRA Hot Rod Reunion

WICKED.

I understand. I have to really work to keep my "shop" a working shop and not a storage area. Luckily my wife and son understand and help in that respect. We use the garage on the house as our storage area for things like mine and the wife's daily drivers, lawn/garden equipment, bicycles and Jeep tops. I have an area downstairs, under our stairs actually, where I keep the home improvement tools (miter saw, skillsaw, paint brushes, etc.) as well as home paint and paint supplies.

Mike.

I hear ya - Half the battle is finding (or building) storage for all the stuff you DON';T want in the shop! I have 2 outdoor sheds (garden tools and extra car parts), the attached 2-car garage (daily drivers, wood and home tools) 2 other garages at rental houses (to store summer cars in winter) - all to keep the shop half-clear!

Worked on the recumbent project some more over the weekend. Test ride successful!

Seat upholstered.

Also changed the top on my MGB. Quite possibly was the original top on it when I started as I've had it 16 years and it was pretty much that bad back then.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Today I took my scrap metal to the recycler. 580 pounds = $20.80....

Ouch! Took mine in today: 380 lbs paid $26.60

i try to wait till i have at least 1000 lbs or so to make it worth the time, effort and gas..

altho my last scrap run was on the light side, only 300lbs or so.

but i made up for it with over 750lbs of batteries, several alternators & starters

walked away with $300 or so in my pocket.

Hey AMBENZ - I really like the stripes on the boot - is that a custom touch?

I moved half of a North American Auth Equipment 2 post lift from my neighbor's house to mine. He's moving and didn't want to ship it, and was afraid new owners wouldnt like it. Over the next couple of days it will be in my garage. Then I'll have to make room and a new 220v Wire drop so I can install it.

Installed the overhead light on the new workbench I built, and moved it into its corner of the garage:

Then I burned all the scrap wood from the work bench the previous owner of my house cobbled together and left for me

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Had a customer stand me up last night (for the third time). I am about ready to tell this guy to find someone else to work on his stuff. I was supposed to do a timing belt on his 02 Accord but he didn't show. He called about 9:00 last night and said his daughter needed the car and she just got home. Wanted to bring the car by then. I said, hell no. I was getting ready for bed as I have to get up @ 4:00 in the morning for work.

Hopefully he will bring it by this afternoon. Otherwise I guess I will call the next guy on the list and bump his spot.

While I was waiting for this guy to show up I looked over at my bookshelf that has been bugging me for several months now as it has become overrun. I have catalogs on there from the 90's for street rod parts and snowmobile parts as well as all of my service manuals. Then it seems to be a place where other items get stacked on.

So I don't have my street rod or our snowmobiles any longer and really don't work on them much, plus most parts are available for viewing and/or research online so not much need for too many catalogs. I ended up moving the garbage can close to the shelf and started a major organizing/cleaning session.

When the wife came home she was shocked at what a difference just an hour or so of cleaning looked like. I try to keep the shop clean and organized as space is at a premium, however, that little corner with the bookshelf just got out of control. Now it looks much better and I don't have to force myself not to look at it when I open the shop door.

Very nice, my wife and mother in law can homemade salsa as well, I bet there's probably 50 pint jars of salsa in my mother in law's basement, and this hasn't been a good year for tomatoes in our garden.

Oh **** - that would have killed me too! So I use 1/2" Melamine sheets.

Dang, always a simple solution. Thanks for the tip. Didnt think to use melamine sheets when I had a few sheets of 1/2 plywood leaned against the garage. Looks like I am going shopping

I did this a few weeks ago, so I appreciate the time it takes to do this.. Once done, it sure makes finding what your looking for easier. It used to drive me nuts searching for something I knew I had "somewhere" in one of those bins.

Nice to see that there are people out there still making their own tomato sauce, lets not forget wine. I am Italian and this is our way of life, last week we made 8 bushels of tomatoes and in a month or so it will be wine time. My BIL and I are looking forward to making 1800 lbs of grape. It is approximately 50 cases of 36 lbs. I can't wait.

Replaced the alternator and power steering belts on the Buick wagon.

Also after finally locating a suitable pair of crosscut saw handles, I put them on my grandaddy's crosscut saw.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

What dressing did you use on the tires. I agree, they look better than the ones you can see your reflection in.

I like the 10 spoke wheels on front. I always wished they made 10 spokes for the rears though that were deep dish. I'm the sort of person that likes things to match. Don't get me wrong though, you are period correct looking and that's what counts.

Yes, deep dish ten spokes, I have thought about that one myself. But on 10.5 rim the ten spoke center might look out of proportion.

The tire dressing I use is an old time product that has been around for years. Can be found at auto zone, here is a link with a picture. Wipe on let it set great stuff, enjoy.

Yes, had Riggs Brothers of Villa Park, Illinois replace the fabric of the stock Ford Boot cover with a vinyl color I picked to match as best I could, the Grabber Orange exterior paint.
Instead of stitching stripes, they suggested "dyeing" the stripes in the vinyl. It's a one of a kind mod...haven't seen one besides mine.
Makes it unique...little touches are always appreciated...like I have to tell you that! LOL! Thanks for asking.

Another angle...

It ties in the seat covers too...

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Knocked up a quick wooden door for an outbuilding out of ply and some PT timber. It's a temporary measure to get me through this winter, next year I'll make a new door frame and proper planked ledged and braced door. It had an old stable door on it and the top fell apart earlier in the year and I made a replacement for that and now the bottom half has disntegrated so I made a replacement for that but have decided to join the two parts together as I don't need it to be a stable door and that way it's easier to get a lock on it. The building is an old pig house and is just used for storage of junk at the moment.

Made some good progress yesterday.

Just temporary until I finish my oven. Then the bigger (and higher quality) booth gets built.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I did more laps than a NASCAR driver. Let me explain.

I am redoing my shop ceiling after some the old plastic/nylon temporary ceiling failed in spots. This means I have had to box up/palletize almost everything except my tools.

So today I was cleaning up the leftovers. I'd go to one box, find a tool, and walk to my toolbox to put it away. Near the toolbox I found some fasteners loose, so I took them to where they belonged. Then I'd find something that I no longer wanted and put it in the 'sell' pile or in the garbage. I kept doing this most of the day - round and round the shop for hours. And then there were the trips to the house from the shop, and back. Doesn't seem like much, but I really dealt with a lot of detritus - my new word for today. It's a fancy word for '****'. Honest - look it up!

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Brown Santa delivered my test LED Light Bar that I am thinking about using for task lighting under the cabinets above my new work bench. I think it will work out satisfactory and I'll go ahead and order the rest over the weekend.

UPS also delivered my Tour Pack for my Harley, so spent some time getting that together and mounted.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Today (after a wicked painful shoulder therapy session), I replaced the door lock solenoid in the passenger door (it was bad when I bought the truck). Then, since I already had the panel off and the kit on the shelf, I installed the after market passenger power window motor and wiring to it.

Tomorrow (weather permitting) I'll install the driver's window motor. (Rolling down windows manually after rotator cuff surgery is painful!).

On the agenda: Install the after market cruise control.

This old truck is just a base model.

Suppose that explains all the racket, smoke and spewing oil then eh?
Pretty sure I will make a lamp from the engine at this point.

I made a bunk bed for my daughter's American Girl doll. I then cut some headers and sills for my ongoing hurricane shutter installation project. Making the bed was a lot more rewarding...
