Built the wife some garden beds and put up a (yes, 1) piece of trim on my shelves.

I like the 'slow and steady' approach:D

That traffic light is awesome. Where did you pick that up at? What are the dimensions? I've been on the lookout for one but they always seem too big for something like a garage or basement decoration.

It was a $70 CL find but I've found them for $35 at swapmeets. It's about 3 feet tall but they have bigger ones that are 4 feet tall. I wish it was a 4 footer. They just want too much for them. I picked up some flashers on feebay so she will be blinking before too long. Here is what it looks like after some cleaning & paint.

Got my 64 JD 110 running a little better and took it around the neighborhood for a spin.

Yeah, I'm that odd neighbor....every street has one.

I use a search engine called search tempest. It searches all of Craigslist across the whole country as well as ebay. I found this in my local Craigslist though. True story: the first one I bought I got it at a tag sale. I asked the old woman what she wanted for it and she squinted at me and said "$5?" I said okay and almost put my hand through my pocket getting my money out. We left there and went to another tag sale and found a 39ish Coke cooler. I asked the old timer how much and he said it's been sold. "The guy went to go get the money". I asked him how long ago & did he leave a deposit? His name? Anything? "Well....No" I told him I had cash right here and now. He said "Well whatdaya say Ma should we sell it to him?" She shook her head with approval. Then I asked him how much? He said "Just like I told the other guy $45!" I told him I had to go get my truck & he said for an extra $5 he would deliver it. We shook hands to seal the deal and just as I placed the money in his hand a silver pickup pulled up. It was the other guy. He said "sorry I just sold it". Right time right place I suppose. I do this kinda stuff all the time. I once picked up a huge stop sign at a swapmeet for $5. Put it in my wagon and 2 rows over a guy sees it and says "How much for the stop sign"? I yelled back "$75!" as a joke. Then he yells back "SOLD!" He actually gave me $75 I still don't believe that one happened but it did. I would sell this traffic light in a heartbeat if I could get a 4 footer in as good a shape for the price I got this one for.

Cutting cabinet pieces for the wall of garage cabinets. Just need to run the dados tomorrow and cut a ton of pieces to length on the chop saw. Then it becomes assembly time.

I'd buy them all day long if I could find them for $35. Around here, swapmeets, CL, and sale ads all want a minimum of $100 for them. I lucked out when I bought mine. I had the choice of the lot that the city had when they replaced all of theirs for $75 each. The one I picked out had 3 lights fastened together. I argued with the guy that I had my choice and that was it. He caved and let me have the three bolted together for $75. I had a garage sale and was selling one of them for $100. I could have sold a dozen in 15 minutes if I had them for that price. I eventually sold another for $100 and kept one for myself that hangs in the garage. I don't know how many times I could have sold that one.

To some that are looking for them for a reasonable price, check with your local Street Department in the city. If they take lights out of commission, most places won't put a used light back up, they'll go with a new light. So they may have a few just sitting around. The same way with signs. Our county and city are replacing all of the road signs in the next five years I believe. The old signs are supposed to be recycled, but if one asked, I imagine you could get a few. When they replaced the Stop sign across the road from me, I asked the guy what he was going to do with it and he asked me if I wanted it. A freebie right there. I ended up selling it for $35.

And if anyone runs across the older metal traffic lights with the glass lens in them for $100 or less, you better snag it as those go for around $200 or more. The newer yellow lights are plastic and aluminum with plastic lenses.

Keep your eyes out or ask the city about Walk / Don't Walk lights. All the older ones are being replaced with LED lights.

Molded more Kydex. Phone mount and vehicle specific mount for my truck much like proclip but cost me $5 in Kydex and an hour of work rather then $100 for the actual proclip. Molded a new front half for my crossbreed holster. Cleaned about 1K brass in USC while tinkering and grilling this weekend.

Gotta clean up the edges with the dremel, but 95% cheaper wins even with some uneven edges.

Brought home my signed John Force racing slick from 1998 to hang in the garage somewhere. Might need a 16" wheel to mount it to.

402010216.jpg

Also brought home from my storage unit this back half of a 500 lb bomb. Wood it's sitting on might get cut down for the wall mount. It's about 50 lbs.

Oh- that box & tools on the floor I scored at a yard sale Saturday. Box is a Kennedy, tools are all Snap-on & Proto. Some that were at bottom of box were rusty. Not bad for 10 bux. :)

Florida is like the fleamarket capital of the world man! Atleast the area I lived in seemed to be.

Problem is most of the stuff is junk and the good stuff is way over priced. You used to be able to bargain with flea marketers but now the price is the price take or leave it i don't go as much as i did a few years ago. I went to a flea in tampa last week was looking at a snap on 24 mm swm241 shallow socket the guy wanted $30.00 so i pulled out the smart phone and checked the Snappy price $ 24.15 i told the guy and showed him the web site he told me to f-off the price is the price if you don't like it go f-myself. I think i will try another flea market and maybe i will get lucky and find a good deal.

Yea I know what you mean. South of there is sarasota and venice, where I used to live. Lots of flea markets and alot of them have the same attitude. But this will deter alot of other bargain hunters and you may still find that diamond in the rough. I hit a hard sale last weekend and found some old crusted up tools. I soaked them in some penetrating oil for a couple days then threw them in the ultrasonic cleaner for a day with totally awesome cleaner and a little vinegar and they came out pretty nice and fully functional. I redipped the handles and now have a mix match of usable tools that cost me $5.

Yeah everyone at flea markets & swap meets thinks its ebay. I don't argue anymore. They deal or I walk "F- them" most times I will find it cheaper on the bay or CL anyway. A big plus is I don't have to wade through miles of garbage to find that one thing I may be looking for & I don't use up all my gas going and not finding anything. On the bay the big brown truck pulls up & drops it off. Its way cheaper & less time consuming. I do still go to flea markets, swap meets, estate sales, & tag sales because I enjoy it. Tag sale last year I picked up 2 17'' flat screen monitors for $5 ($2.50 each) and 4 real nice bikes all $5 each. I sold all the bikes for $65 each, gave away one monitor to a buddy & I'm looking at the other one as I type..LOL Another good place (here in CT anyway) is the goodwill thrift store. Picked up a huge dutch oven for the wife for $20. Come to find out it sells for $160 new! And it was in near perfect shape. We used it to cook our turkey for Easter.

That's what all the TV shows have caused. Pawn Stars, Auction Hunters, and so on. When we had our garage sale last year, I don't know how many people asked before they bought something if we ever watch those shows. Then the haggling starts. It got to be old real quick especially when they tell you that they just watched something being sold the other night and "it was only worth this amount" Fine!!! Get in touch with Rick, or Alan, or one of them and buy it then.

I don't mind haggling for something, but some of these people want to split $.02 in half just to say they got a great deal.:mad: I even have a sister that will go to garage sales, haggle over a nickel, then put that same thing she just bought, in her garage sale for a stupid price then gets pissed when someone wants to haggle with her :willy_nil:eyecrazy:

As far as doing anything in the garage today....me and the dog are just hanging out stayin' out of momma's way

Awesome stories! How do you find these swap meets? Is there a website you can look at with a master list?

I spilled a pint of paint on the floor of my car.

Luckily that is where it was going anyway, but i hadn't planned on painting my coveralls, nor had i planned on that thick an application.

No not really I just hang with a bunch of car guy's at car shows. They usually hand out flyers at the shows. Then there are the annual meets that happen a couple times a year. Tag sales & estate sales are usually in the local rag. I usually don't haggle real hard but I am looking for good deals to flip. It's how I survive because Lord knows I can't make it on my hourly wages. I just seem to have a knack for finding things & sometimes they find me. I had a buddy call me up saying they had an old car they needed moved. They were going to crush it. Turns out it was a 31 Nash 4 door sedan. Rough shape but enough to build a rod out of it. I took her home & sold it to a guy in Jersey for $550. Better then scrapping it and another one was saved from becoming a toaster.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Last night I removed the fuel pump from a V-Star 650 that I have in the shop, waiting on a new pump that will not be here until Wednesday. I then cleaned up some parts for a little chinese pit bike that I am working on for another guy and waiting on parts for.

Another guy was supposed to bring his 2004 Powerstroke by to have me service the transmission and front/rear differentials. He told me he would have the truck to my shop by 5:00 pm but didn't show up.

I didn't want to waste time so I threw my Duramax on the lift and put my catalytic converter back on so I can go get my emissions test done sometime this week.

After eating dinner and relaxing for a little bit with the wife the guy with the Powerstroke finally showed up @ 8:00 pm. Wow! People really are inconsiderate of others time. Sometimes I wonder why I even do this.

Mike.

I cleaned mine out. Been too busy with other stuff to get at it. Mowed the lawns, got a truck box ready to sell, and put a graco airless back together to paint the house later this weekend.
