What did you do "IN" your garage today?

In the attic above the garage...

Fixed (?) the AC on the house. Was trying to figure out why the AC couldn't keep the house cool. The filter on the AC is a reusable one and I figured it needed to be cleaned (the system said it was fine, but I cleaned it anyways).

Went to climb up into the attic and started scratching my head as to why the attic was cooler than the garage down below it.

I discovered that the big plastic panel that covers the coils had a big crack along the bottom of it and it was spewing cold air into the attic. I didn't have any aluminum tape and couldn't find the silver duct tape, so I used what I could easily find.

This will have to do for now. There's some plastic missing around the PVC pipes for the drain and it seems as though water is leaking out the bottom of the handler instead of going through the PVC pipe. I'm assuming there's something wrong internally.

I'll call an AC guy to come out and look at it, but this at least is keeping the cold air going back into the house instead of cooling the attic.

After seeing that TAMU tape I would say something about Aggie engineering, but I won't. Hook'em.

You reminded me that I have that very same radio. I need to get it down off the garage shelf:

Very Nice collection. I used to collect them too but haven't acquired anything new in many years. Most of what I have are German portables and table top tube.

It works! It probably hadn't left the box in forever because the negative wire just fell off the battery pack today so it was was probably only hanging on by a hair. I hooked it up to the car battery and it turned on and everything works FM, AM, FM ATC, tone, the dials and gauges, everything! I think I may just completely disconnect the battery pack and rewire it with spades or something so I can swap it with a power supply rather than deal with 5# of D cells. LOL

My plastic container for pop cans had a few cracks in it so i decided to try out my Harbor Freight Plastic welder I recently purchased. The 80 watt iron seems to have plenty of heat to properly melt the plastic for good welds. Anyone else have this item. I was thinking of getting a second one for just regular soldering as my 30 watt soldering iron seems second rate to something that is 80 watt?

Replaced a broken receptacle in the garage. I had stepped on the extension cord while working and it cracked. I thought it was just the bottom edge of the ground hole; I didn't realize how badly damaged it was until I took it out:

I will never install a 45 cent builder grade receptacle again after seeing this. I replaced it with a commercial grade device, and mounted it properly this time (ground pin up) in the hope that the next time I am a clumsy stumbling doofus in my garage, the receptacle will withstand it.

Sometimes something needs repair & you let it go too long......don't even think about it anymore? I fixed one of those today.

Over a year ago the garage door sensors stopped door from closing right. Had to push button/blink a few times/hold it down til fully closed. Annoying.

Sensors were misaligned an inch but I still couldn't get it working(???). I was laying on the floor face-to-face measuring then it occurred to me my garage queen '55 Chevy pickup was blocking them! DUH!!! I even have a ball hanging from ceiling to make sure it's in the right spot - it was making sure it was in the WRONG spot, ha ha. Fixed.

Next Issue: Exterior keypad "Clicker" needs re-programming. Followed Youtube video religiously but don't know my opener "type" code. Tried possible #1-#9 codes but couldn't get it to work. The unit in video is older than mine and I haven't found my owner's manual. I'll find it online I hope.
I solved that problem on mine by mounting them 6" apart on a ceiling joist, door opens and closes every time just like when it was built ................................

Repurposed two more wheels and welded them to repurposed angle, I now have four legs with wheels attached. Tomorrow, I will begin to set the width of the cart.

My wife and I have always wanted a BMW 2002. Just needed to find just the right one. Then at an Amelia Auction, we looked and bid on a 2002tii touring. We fell in love with that hatchback version of the 2002 that was never sold in the USA. However, we lost the auction.

So we went on a worldwide search for one and finally found one at an Estate Sale in Vienna Austria. We bought it, imported it, and picked it up at the Port of Brunswick and took it to our St Simons house to check it out. It is great but as expected with any 50 year old car, it had some problems. There was a loose transmission mount that caused a drivetrain vibration that destroyed the Center Support Bearing of the driveshaft. The temperature gauge lied to us and the lies changed based on what ever else was being used (headlights, radio, etc...). And finally, the 4-way hazard flasher would intermittently turn on and not be able to turn back on. Not a bad list. Couldn't get mad at the previous owner because he may have been well aware of these issues and may have had a plan to address them when he passed away.

So we fixed the transmission mount, troubleshot the other issues and got the car in good enough shape for a long drive. And so late last week, we drove it the 350 miles home with no problems (although I checked the temperature of the cooling system with an infrared thermometer at every stop because I didn't trust the dashboard).

Bottom line, we have locked ourselves into the garage for the last 5 days getting the little hatchback in fine shape. Pulled the driveshaft, replaced the center support bearing, took the dash apart and grounded the temperature gauge, and finally pulled the center console apart and not only repaired the 4-way flasher, fixed the center console to be in better shape. And also fabricated an adapter for USA license plate to fit on the EU mount.

Today was the culmination of all our efforts. Since the car had been restored and engine rebuilt only 350 km before the owner passed away and we put the remaining 650 km on it learning about it and driving it home. So we finished the 1000 km break-in period. So, this morning, changed the oil, retorqued the head, and adjusted the valves. It is now ready to be a great addition to our collection and will be driven quite a lot.

Car arrives at St Simons:

Indicated Engine Temperature (actual temp was 175 degrees):

Car at home ready for enjoyment:

This has been a great stretch of time in the garage getting to know our new car. And today was nice to finish up on routine items like valves, oil changes, and head torque.

Stuck some velcro to the top triple clamp on the ZX11. Now I can swap this gizmo back & forth between the two bikes. On the ZRX11 it goes between the front of the gastank & the steering head.
I am not sure I would trust velcro to hold that.

Garage doors moved into their new location. 9' x 9' insulated doors and added openers to both. My guy charged me $1406 to take them down and install in prepped openings and 2 Liftmaster standard chain openers.
Gave him $1500 cash and think it was a hell of a deal.
Now all projects inside and car storage is climate controlled ! Life is good.

Started reinforcing the cottage deck including replacing a post, so technically "in the garage" would be the never ending fetching of tools, cutting, discovering lack of suitable fasteners. You know, regular GJ stuff.

Replaced the crank seal on my 6 hp Briggs pressure washer.

Checked the pump oil level while at it.

Watched a you tube by Donny Boy- he came thru on the replacement.

Now enjoying several adult beverages !

I cut to length two of the legs for the cart that will carry my current project. They are made from repurposed steel and were of different lengths. Cleaned them up with a flap disk to prepare them to be added to the cart.
Now I need to determine the horizontal distance I want between the legs and prepare the steel. That might happen this afternoon or Saturday, Friday is pretty much committed to SWMBO’s projects

Replaced the hitch pin clip at the front end of the ZX11 rear brake torque arm, so that's all 4 done now. Did the 2 on the ZRX11 & the aft one on the ZX11 a few days ago.
For some reason Kaw use a regular cotter pin at the aft end on the ZX11 & a hitch pin clip at the other. The ZRX had hitch pin clips at both ends.
Kaw refer to them as Snap Clips.

Added all the new OEM hardware (grommets, screws, nylon washers, 1x M6 allen bolt, speednuts) that came with the ZX11 to the plastic box of hardware.
Topped off the header tank with *proper* coolant (Sta-Clean propylene glycol, good for at least 300,000 miles)

Used some Mequiars NXT interior goop on the seat, made it even more slippery.
Bulletproof mount adapter came in for the garmin 890. Had to go test it out.

Screens as far as the eye can see...

Having ran out of “garbage” in and around the house, time to go UNDER!

As many of you may recall, I had a really bad mice problem last winter. Many attributed it to the garbage pile out back. The pile under the house probably didn’t help at all either!

Pulled 2 half bags out. It’s what fit through the opening.

The rest I can reach through the hole in the floor around the water heater/water softener. I’ll be rerouting the main line differently so that I can replace the water heater, and close up this hole that lets conditioned air out/in. 73975AFC-FDF3-4CA1-8D28-AE9CBEFC2FFF.jpeg

I’ve already put my 40+ hours in at work, but signed up for OT tomorrow. So maybe Saturday I will crawl under the house, and collect more garbage, reroute and reconnect the hvac crossover ducting, and spray foam insulation in some much needed areas. All depends on the bank and release of my paycheck lmao. I mobile deposited it last Friday and they tagged it as fraudulent, them bastards.

Finally got around to doing the oil on the GSW in the new garage! Man do I ever hate working on my back though (better than on the pavement or gravel though, I'll admit).

I still maintain that there is a 6'+ tall German engineer somewhere in Wolfsburg that is feeling really clever about the legroom in this car, and all he had to do was push the engine far enough forward to make getting the oil filter out a right good damn pain in the ****!

Anyway, drained the oil, made a bit of a mess but could have been worse, filled the engine back up using one and part of a 4qt jug (instead of buying a 1qt and a 4qt). That's when I realize that since the move, I only have one empty container for the used oil... To be continued.

But can you see to drive? :headscrat (Come on, I'm not the only one thinking it)
Heh.

Yes. This is a horrible picture for actual line of sight... I look over the top of all this and can see the entire hood of the truck from a fully seated position. The little antenna is the only thing that creeps into my line of sight at all.

The garmin is rv specific and takes into account the length of the rig and trailer when creating a route somewhere. It also takes into account the fact I'm carrying propane and will route around road or cities that restrict it.

The furrion links to a rear view camera mounted on the back of the travel trailer and takes the place of the rear view mirror.

The only time any of this will be hooked up is when I'm towing our travel trailer.

Put a set of Snap On casters on my Lista cabinet. I picked up the casters for $30 at a swap meet.

Clean up is awesome but keep in mind if critters were living (and poopin) under there that dust is potentially dangerous to your health and potentially fatal.
Great progress, looking good!

Thanks, and good lookin out!

Yeah, I crawled under there, saw some poop, then headed back topside and got on some protective gear. I’m not taking any chances lol.

Alive and in filth I suppose is better than clean and dead lol

Been building a small secure storeroom in the 'workshop' part of the garage. Today I open an original wall to extend / relocate the water heater pressure blowoff piping and tap an existing outlet for the new electric and put the last couple studs in the new wall. Then it's ready for cladding.

Our company installed one and they ended up having to install a check valve on the discharge copper line. Granted they had to run it up through the roof of the shop which was about 25'

Pin project is cancelled, found that Pitbull have the correct size pin. I just couldn't find it on their website yesterday, Called them today & ordered one... then found it on their website, but it doesn't list the size.

correction. I am instead repairing a cut main pressure polybutylene pipe that was in a wall it had no business being in AND was installed in a manner that pressed it right up against the OSB firewall I was cutting thru. Some numbnuts shoved the insulation in the wall from the other side, mashing the pipe up against the exterior skin. And despite my attempts to cut shallow with an oscillating saw after measuring and looking and figuring there should just be the dry pipe in the wall - SURPRISE! HERE'S SOME HIGH PRESSURE WATER IN YOUR FACE.
Bent the blade on the saw, dropping it in my haste to run for the water cutoff.

Fortunately / unfortunately I had recent experience in repairing a leak in polybutylene pipe that was leaking withOUT it being my fault and had already learned that Sharkbite has specialty fittings to go from polybutylene to other pipes. And already had another set of such and remnant 3/4" pex, so I was able to get right to work making the repair.

All I was TRYING to do was relocate an empty pipe of the water heater pressure relief valve and extend it about 12" and move its external plumbing outboard of my new storeroom wall.

it does have a check valve. It only has 7ft of lift to exit.
Pump didn't turn off yesterday...
Ordered a new micro SW and check valve last night. Bout $15 for parts and worth a shot since a new pump is $55. Bushings in motor are in good shape.
