What did you do "TO" your garage today?

Several forums (cars, dirt bikes, etc) have a common thread- such as "what did you do to your mustang today?" where users can show everything from installing a shift knob or swapping engines, or cleaning out the ash tray. Sometimes you don't want to start a thread for some little thing, but you would still like to share.

Any little thing (or big thing) goes. Let's see what you did today or fairly recently.

I added another 8' bench yesterday-

Also cut the bottom off a vegetable oil container, and drilled two holes in it. Then drilled two holes in my sink and used a cable tie to hold it there. Now my toothbrushes / wire brushes aren't just laying around and are handy. Put a few holes in the bottom so it can drain too:

Finished a clean-up & service on my IR compressor. Installed a new 1/4" ball valve at the drain, and a new 12AWG premium all weather cord.

Put the arms back on my two post lift. It was a used lift, and the arms were not looking the best. So off to powder coat. Look nice.
Also spend some hours on the Bridgeport vertical mill making a top for my tunnel ram. Started with a 1/2" aluminum slab. First real decent project on the mill. So I am learning and having fun.

Re: What did you do to your garage today?

I changed out a couple of florescent bulbs and found one of my dads old 4' shop light had a bad "can" starter. You don't see these old time florescents anymore either, it's a classic! Lucky for me, you can still buy this item...

starter.jpg

The light is a "Tank" and has already outlasted those cheapo's you can get at Home Depot.

Stay tuned for a thread on restoring it to its original condition.
My Dad is in heaven now, but I thank him everyday for having quality hand me downs...Thanks Dad!

Good one. I need to put a new 4' er in one of my fixtures; it's dead.

I could really stand to add two more fixtures on the rear of the garage.

I took off the upper fairing and forks off my old GSXR. Needed a socket from my shop for the top triple clamp. Stuck my head outside and called it a day.

Re: What did you do to your garage today?

I was turning my compressor pump a little too fast.

3450 rpm motor
4.5 inch drive pulley
14.5 inch compressor pulley

The compressor pump was turning at 1071 rpm which was a little over the 1050 rpm rated maximum speed.

I changed the drive pulley to 4.15 inch. The new pulley is a cast iron type with a bushing. It would not mount on the motor drive shaft in the same position, so I needed to drill and tap new motor mounting holes.

I'm now turning my compressor pump at a more comfortable 987 rpm.

I peeked out the back door window and watched it rain, then start snowing on my garage. I'm afraid...

My garage isn't heated. Therefore, I carried my road-box into the basement so I have it to tinker in the coziness of the house.

Used my craigslist snowblower for the 2nd time (1st time was a light dusting just to see) it worked great. Made a few small adjustments on it.

Re: What did you do to your garage today?

Woke up to the world spinning all around me, grabbed my water bottle out of the garage, went back to sleep on the couch for many more hours, deciding that I would suffer the consequences of not going to church, because I don't think I could have made it down the street, much less across the city.:puke:

Woke up around 1700, and took the Duck down for gas. Good thing too, I was down to less than 1/2 gallon.

I know, not what you are looking for, but I don't think I could have done an oil change today if my life depended on it. Me: :eek:wned:

Cleaned up enough to get to my drill press so I could drill and tap some holes in fittings we are using to hang banners in our gym. Took the agitator out of the washing machine then took it apart, cleaned it and put it back in. Spent some time helping my 6yo daughter drive brass tacks in a board she is decorating for her aunt.

Spent time showing my daughter and 4yo son my tap and die sets and explaining how they work. THEN..drilled some holes in an old piece of pipe and helped them each tap a couple holes. This was followed by them showing my wife what they had done then calling their grandparents and telling them as well. All in all, a good day in the garage.

Re: What did you do to your garage today?

I hosted a Hotrodder's Christmas gathering in my garage today. Had 19 guys over for pizza, Pepsi and pinball. We watched vids of drag racing at a local track that was filmed in the mid 1960's and had a table filled with "gently used" car mags for swap/trade. It was cold and snowy outside, but it was 72 degrees and bright in the garage. Not a bad way to spend the day!

Re: What did you do to your garage today?

I dug through a huge stack of boxes that are blocking an entire bay to get to some boxes with christmas junk in it for the wife and sister.

Been three years and I still can't get all this house **** organized and the hell out of my garage! They won't let me throw any of it away, but other than the christmas stuff the other boxes don't have anything they have needed to get since they've been stacked there.. Dammit.

I took 6 trailer loads of car parts, scrap lumber/metal, and random garage junk to the dump to try to get my garage build done and clean, stuff I could have used too.. But they need to keep everything in this 12ft stack of boxes or life would end, but neither of them could tell you whats in most the boxes without opening.

Re: What did you do to your garage today?

I worked on a 6-foot long area of garage wall close to the garage door/track... ripped out the old shelving and replaced it with two "new" metal cabinets and a workbench top made from a salvaged solid-core door. The cabinets are office-type file cabinets with roll-out drawers, but they have swing-open doors on the front. Nice and cheap, but solid-built. Spent the day loading up those roll-out drawers with power tools and organizing.

What's a road box?

As many know, I've been working on a 56 Chevy Truck Resto. Got some patching done on the rear fenders...

Also, got this photo of Mrs E-tek with the car I built for her - and updated my site with it...otherwise I'd lose my traffic!!

Of course I did some cleaning and organizing:

Installed the ceiling fan thats been bought and paid for and sitting on a bench for a year and a half. Dreaded working overhead 16' in the air. Feels good to have it up and running.

Re: What did you do to your garage today?

I didn't do a lot in the garage today. Broke a tube lamp, shouted at it, cleaned it up, didn't find what I was looking for. Made sure the snowblower started and functioned properly, shouted at my overhead furnace for not working. A grand error on its part. Built a new bench last week from scrap 4x4s and ply, put together some bulk shelving, figure the garage should be happy. Watched my Jets lose. Thought about replacing my compressor.

Glued 3/4" foam board to the insides of my two 9' by 7' garage doors and sealed the cracks with stretch metal coated tape...much warmer now...my ***** (aka ghost the cat) is much happier. She brought me a mouse head as proof of her gratefulness!

Moved the car roof box from the garage into the house attic and some other junk so I can at least get in the damn door now! Then I spent the rest of the day with the kids putting up the christmas tree and decorations.

I spent the last week and a half building a 12x9 corner bench in mine. Just trimmed the top in last night in aluminum L-channel. I'll have pics up maybe tonight. Have to say, it looks sweet, and is 2 years overdue :D

Bundled up some old cardboard and assembled a shuffleboard table, so now I have room for both cars in the garage over the winter.

I also picked up a Mr. Heater Big Buddy to help take the chill off when I'm working on the cars.

Re: What did you do to your garage today?

i had a nice snow drift inside the door :wtf:

left for work at 4:30 am this morning, found the unplowed roads, was just getting ready to leave for my days service cal when the wife calls me and tells me we have no heat.
cancell my calls, fight the unplowed roads back home, get the boiler up and running, then cleared drifted snow from the driveway, and to top it off, broke the drive belt on the snowblower :(
