Built a pole barn in no. michigan. I want to get rid of the temporary pole for power I have and move power to the barn. I figure a 100 am service should be good as I don't have much to power. The power will come in from the roof edge down the eve into the building. What electrical will I need to make this happen? Appreciate any info. Thanks, scott.

Where is the power coming from? Are you taking power from another structure (house)? Or are you planning on a new service with a new meter on the pole barn? Need some detail. Your question is too open ended.

Want to eliminate the temporary pole and have that wire moved to the barn. I will need the mast, meter socket and pipe and what ever else is involved do do this.So if you was going to run new power to the barn, how would you do it? I am not doing this.

If your installing a new service, I would do 200A, the cost is not going to be that much higher & a larger panel is useful, if your not going to do it yourself, get some bids from some electrical contractors, the meter location will be determined by the power company, I would advise not trying to furnish materials, if your not familiar with electrical materials your not going to get the right stuff, wasting time which equals money, plus warranty issues with customer furnished materials.

Have you checked to see if your power company has an online handbook, many do have these online and will publish notes and pictures on exactly what they require.

Was the 'barn' permitted? In many locations, you need an electrical permit for the power company to then power your service- and they may have issues permitting a service in an unapproved building.... You need to look into you local rules and regs. As someone posted, it may be listed on the county/township/whatever website

You could have a range of 'solutions'.

A pole next to the barn, meter and disconnect- then a short trench to a riser up the barn wall

A rigid mast up the outside of the barn wall, through the roof (with appropriate flashing). Overhead wires mount to pole (it needs to be strong and well mounted) then the service down through a weatherhead. Meter, disconnect, panel on the barn.

An underground service- trench from the utility pole to the barn, up and in. Nice and clean, no wires overhead.

200A sounds reasonable.

Sounds like you will hire an electrician, but these are the general 'flavor choices' you have
