Ed, all 1/2 put out at least 200 ftlbs, which is more than any bolt on a common job, even rusted ones, will take to remove. Id bet money that your gun puts out at least somewhere in the 200 range. Your problem may not be your current guns lack of power, as it might be the lack of air to reach that power. Usually, the cheaper the gun, the more air it will eat, because of a more effiecient design. Look at one of the IR super duty grinders compared to the Standard ones. The superduty ones take like 14cfm, the standard ones use like 19.

As fo that gun, it should be fine. It has a better warantee than both IR and Snap on combined. Check out the impacts per minute rating on the gun if you cna find it. If you dont have as much air as tbhe gun takes at full load, you wont reach that full torque range, or you will, but it will quickly fall off. IF it has a very high Impacts per minute rating, like in the 900+ range, you will have more initial removal torque, and you will see greater sucess, despite not having all the air it wants.

Grunt

That gun is loud as f*ck!

Acutally... If your looking for power... maybe consider this one.

http://www.thetoolwarehouse.net/shop/IR-235.html $84

Its a VERY fast gun 9500 rpm, 1200 bpm, which might make your work go faster, and it has a relativly low Full load air consumption as far as impacts go.

That sunex model posten has a pin clutch, which I believ is a single hammer clutch. The twin hammers on most IR guns mean the will loosen a bolt much faster, because each impact is stronger.

Just a thought.

Save your money and buy an IR. It'll last forever and is always ready to work. I have a IR 2135Ti at work, and I use it everyday. Many of the entry level techs that come in have these lower priced guns and wear 'em out in a couple of months.

IR Titanium all the way

I agree with above post. At the mustang plant I believe 2135 is the same number that we use......I bought one off ebay from a tool dealer. They retail for high three hundreds but you can get them cheaper as I did.
Very powerful, quiet, and will last. We use them continuously up to fourteen hours a day. Eventually the sockets will fit loose on it but other than that nothing but compliments for them......4 position adjustment for power......nice piece.

Update...

Thanks for the responses, guys. I ended up going with the gun in my original post. I just couln't justify the $$$ for an IR that I wouldn't use everyday. Or even every week. I really don't use the gun very often, but when I need it, it's nice to have.

So far, this CH gun is working out great. It's heavy (doesn't really matter to me) but quieter than my old CH. I keep it well oiled (can you over-oil the impact mechanism? I just keep filling it up) and it seems to work great. All that and a 3 year warranty. Oh, and I found that this gun is made in Taiwan, not China. Which makes me feel only slightly better.

One of these days, like when we remodel the house and turn the current garage into a shop, I'll invest in a nice IR or Eaton compressor and score me some IR tools. Until then, I'll work with what I have.

Muddy-

FYI, you can have the nose replaced and put a new clip on them and it'll snug up the fit with the socket. Also, as your sockets wear, they begin to fit loosely too... The local Matco dealer warrantees sockets for that- might be worth checking into.

eschoendorff-

Glad to hear you're happy with your purchase. As long as it meets YOUR needs, then thats all that matters. Using mine 10-12 hrs a day is the big reason I went for a quieter, lighter IR. I'm sure for occasional use it wouldn't matter as much. I brought my old Blue-Point (Snap On) AT123 home and use it with my old 220V 25gal Crasftsman compressor. Seems to work fine, although the compressor could stand to be bigger (especially when using the plasma cutter... :D

I second the IR 2135Ti. Light and very powerful. I've tried other guns, but most are less powerful and weight a ton. Try using another gun for any length of time.

Got mine off of eBay for ~$150

If you're worried about noise, get the 2135QTi model. Supposed to be quieter.

I'm a little uncomfortable with the thought of a plastic impact gun

It's not a thin plastic. I've dropped it several times without any breakage. The plastic is similar to what you would see on a Glock handgun.

I have used some VERY IMPRESSIVE compostie guns from snap-on/mac/matco, seemed kind wierd as they are so light but they have as much power as the traditional steel at a fraction of the weight, a real benefit to the mechanic that has to use it all day still a bit pricey for me

I think guns are made of mostly aluminum?

I have this same one. Great unit and durable. Mines been dropped several times and is no worse for wear. The composite handle isn't freezing cold if working out in winter weather either.
