I spent months trying to find my 7 and 9mm Wiha Soft Grip Dual Drive T-Handles from the set only to find out there are none. I lose sockets mostly.

Tape measures, flashlights (and headlamps), and cans of soda.

I've also distributed countless pens and notebooks around the entire factory over the years. Sometimes the notebooks find their way back, sometimes not.

My big Mac hard handled slotted screwdriver at work,I call this my disappear and reappear screwdriver.I keep on saying I have to paint the handle a flouresant color a lot.Could not find a pair of 6 inch Mac pliers too and found them, found the pair in the other tool cart which is full of tools due to this pair falling in.I did it today,my Matco 14mmx15mm long zero offset box end wrench.I was looking for it and I realized I put it away after using it.

This brings back a memory that I started laughing about. My boss at a company many moons ago left her notebook at my station at work one day. Why she just walked away I don't know but it was just before break time. Well I didn't think it would be good to just let it sit ot for whoever to find so I put it in the cabinet next to my desk figuring she would be back to ask for it. Break came and went and I notice her walking around the building with a perplexed look on her face. I had forgot about her book by now. Well it was several hours later that I had to get something out of the cabinet when I saw the book and went and put it back on the counter near me. The look on her face when she was retracing her steps for the 4th or 5th time was priceless. I told her what happened later but I was a bit concerned about my job at that moment. Thank god she laughed when I told her why she didn't find it for so long. lol

The tape measure used to go missing for long stretches. I guess because it's something you always bring somewhere else. The solution was to buy five from HF and assign three conspicuous shelf spots where one is (should be) always kept.

I did the same thing and still have moments when I can't find one. :lol_hitti

The problem with that for me, is that my truck is parked in the driveway.

Usually my cigar or anything else that I set down in a place that that I KNOW I'll remember. I'll usually find it several days later. The best way I've found to make sure I can't find anything is to organize my "shop." When everything is in a big pile I know where it is. When I try to organize everything I never can remember where I decided to put it.

Yeh, gotta agree its tape measures for me too- and my theory is its because this the tool you use during (most ?) jobs or to measure up beforehand.... without really mentally counting it as a tool , if that makes sense. I previously posted a reply to another thread that the main tool I couldn't do without was my Leatherman. I am now just this minute in a flash of clarity thinking that I was wrong.... should be "tape measure".
I now keep 3 in my "measuring items drawer" in the garage, also keep 1 in my car, 1 in my study, 1 in my office at work and one in each of my tool bags....and more recently have promised myself to really try to return them to those places when I've finished with them.

Regular Craftsman Phillips screwdriver. Once found one in a junk box that was lost for 5 years. Then I promptly lost the spare one I had.

When I do woodworking or carpentry I automaticaly grab a half a dozen pencils and still ose them all after a couple of hours.
