I order all kinds of hardware and specialty material from them and have found their shipping to be fair plus the website is amazing. Drawings for everything! Those that are complaining about their shipping prices keep in mind homeowners are not their target audience and for a while they would only ship to businesses. Like others said, order by 5 and it shows up the next day. That kind of reliability is worth much more to a business than saving a few bucks on shipping.
Maybe if you are near a warehouse?
Here it takes a week or so to get an order.
Well, unless I did next day air and paid through the nose for shipping.

I'm not running a shop or other business, I use them as the vendor of last resort for personal use items when I can't find what I need elsewhere. What I like is their selection. What I dislike is their lack of disclosure regarding the cost of shipping. Every other web vendor I deal with has a website that tells me in advance, prior to my pushing that "Place Order" what my shipping costs will be. Why can't McMaster- Carr do the same?

A lot of the industrial suppliers I deal with are like that. I can't remember but I think the last order I placed they actually had shipping costs as part of the checkout though.

Hazard of being in AK. Standard shipping for me is about 2-3 days and so far the only perk I can find of having an account with them at work is we get a decent deal on overnight shipping (or else our procurement people don't care) because I got 20 6"pipe flanges the next day when I specifically said it wasn't a rush order.

They do now. It's something added recently.

I hated that as well. Got nailed with a $15 order and $70 shipping once.

I'll use them for stuff I can't find locally, or specialty items. Their shipping costs are high compared to other options.
