If any of you members recall, I was working towards gaining my A&P license (Got it today after passing the oral and Practical Exam!!!) and was looking to get a rivet gun. I pulled the trigger (no pun intended!) on this CP 3x rivet gun on ebay. What do you think of it for $32 and free shipping? Will this tool last me a while and where can I get an owners manual and spare parts?

Thanks

Idk much about the smaller guns (I was working with 5/16" rivets) but as long as you keep it oiled and dont dry-fire it, there isnt much that can go wrong with them.

When rivet guns wear out, they don't stop hammering. Instead, they get harder to "tease". In other words, pulling the trigger slightly to get a few hits results in a hiss of air and no action. Pulling it a little harder overdrives the rivet.

If the gun still teases OK, it'll last you quite a while. If it doesn't, take it all apart and clean it up. Parts may or may not still be available from Chicago Pneumatic.

For $32 I wouldn't sweat it too much, you can always use it as a mechanic's air hammer.

Congrats on passing your tests!

I just ordered a set of rivet sets and new spring for it last night. Pretty excited about putting it to work. Right now I have a few projects around the house that I would like to break it in on (got an idea for socket storage).
