Hi Ya'll!
So I was browsing c-list and came across this for $40. Is it a good tool box restoration project? Also do you have any info about this specific box?

That's a lot of rust for $40!

Unless you know someone with an industrial sized media blaster and he's willing to work for beer I'd look for other options.

Really, you don't think that it could clean up?

I know you werent asking me, but it would be very hard. I have tried restoring boxes and once they get that much rust you can sand holes through em before you hit clean metal. I know its only 40 bucks, but I would save it and think of it as 40 towards my next tool purchase that didnt require so much time and money to work.

Because even though its 40, that could easily be hundreds depending on how you value your time and what tools and materials you have available.

Jump on it! It will be a fun project and you'll have a great box. For the record, from the pictures that rust will be easy to clean up. Have fun and have at it!

That is pretty rusty.

I've yet to do this, but....if that were mine (I just thought of this genius idea), I would restore the handles and slides and inside of drawers. Then lightly knock off the exterior rust scale with a scothbrite pad, and clear coat the whole thing. Lots of clear coat so it's nice and smooth. I think that would be awesome...function perfectly, but look like it came from a field-and no rust on your pants when you lean against it. I'm serious. That'd be cool.

I say this b/c there is so so many other boxes that have less damage and can be restored, but that one looks very straight, just rusty.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Definitely worth it, though I'd try and talk the seller down to 20 (40 is probably fair, though).
