The regulator shut-off switch on my old 230 volt Campbell Hausfeld 4hp oil-less 30 gal. has died and I contacted them about replacing it. I was told that a new one would be about $75-80 plus shipping. I hate to put money into it since it really isn't big enough for what I need in the new shop. And it is noisy as hell. So I’m going to replace it tomorrow with this one. I think this one will probably meet my needs. HF has a 7hp, with 80 gallon, two stage but they want $1399 and I really don't think it will give me that much more service especially for the extra money.

Is that a pic of the acutal compressor? Is it me, or does that motor look way to small to be a 5 hp?

They always over rate them. A 5hp motor running on 220 is supposed to pull 21 amps. 15 amps is 3hp and I would guess its really a 3. My old Cambell Hossfield said it was 7hp, Yea no, it was 3.

My experience with air compressors in a home shop has usually been that much bigger is much better...unless you get something which your electrical system cannot handle. You may want to operate a big sandblaster someday, or some other tool which requires LOTS of air. The difference in cost at the beginning is negligible.

My real point: I have known SEVERAL people (like me) over the years who have regretted buying a compressor which was too small. But I have NEVER known anyone who regretted buying one that was too big.
