I happened on one of these out-of-the-box at an outlet store:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003R3JFJO?cache=af4ee75f7afbf08600c85a2ded7b2b0d&pi=SY200_QL40

I'm not all that impressed with it. It's not that strong, not as strong as a garden variety Craftsman shop vac. There isn't an on/off switch out at end of the hose, which turned out to be more important than I would have thought. The plastic hose ends feel small and a bit lightweight to me.

I'm NOT bashing the wall mount types, I'd just shop differently if I were buying new again.

PS: I think I paid about $70-80 for it, which is why I went ahead and bought it.

Lowes had a shop-vac brand one on sale for 51% off. 5.75HPand 16Gal bucket, only downside though is it seems like it's your typical dumbed down for big box retail model. Can't find anything on the manufacturers website, and it's missing a few nicer features you see in nicer models. But still for $50 you can't really argue, worst case it becomes a dedicated dust collection vac for me.

I have the older version of the Craftsman wall mounted garage vac. I bought a second replacement hose so I can reach into a car in the driveway. Works pretty good. If it ever dies I may try a Hoover GUV...

I use an old Bissell bag less upright vacuum. It ate a belt and the neighbor got rid of it. I took the base off and was left with the vacuum and canister. Works really well for a shop vac. I've used it to pick up everything from saw dust to mostly metal chips. Been fine for years, even soaked up some oil before. Easy to clean out, takes up minimal floor space and HEPA filtration.

The standard floor wheel shop vacs take up too much space IMHO. Unless you had a very open shop setup I think the wall mount would be a pain.

I also have the Bissel unit. I have a buddy who works for Bissel and they test units for various things and then cannot sell them. Mine has a different On/Off button than a shelf unit.

Either way; it does its job fairly well. It doesn't have the pull of a big Rigid or something like that but it's off the floor and picks up anything I throw at it. I have a small garage so wall mounting is crucial.

Thanks for that. We've been needing a larger vacuum for cleaning out animal cages but would have never found one for that price.

I also have the Bissel and it is handy because it is always there when you need it. No trying to find it first. But not as much power as my wheeled Shop Vac. I mainly use it to clean my cars interior and garage floor and it does a good job. Bought it for around $100 I think.

I threw an almost brandnew shop vac 6hp away in a dumpster cause it.. well, did not ****... I replaced it with a Ridgid shop vac from Home Depot and it is AWESOME! Love the locking hose and longer hose accessories. Can't say enough about the ridgid one!

When my Craftsman shop-vac went kaput a few years ago I replaced it with this Ridgid 6.0hp/14 gallon vacuum. It's got plenty of power, rolls easily and it's fairly quiet. Plus parts and accessories are easy to get at the local Home Depot.

If you have a ShopVac brand vacuum, I highly recommend using the bags in it. They make emptying easy and restore maximum ****. Maximum **** is usually desirable.

I'm interested in one of those wall mounted units. Anybody own one? Looking for feedback. There seems to be quite a few out there.

Those are interesting though I don't own a shop vac because anything I would pick up I wouldn't want to do with it (i.e. oil of all sorts:lol:). If you're a woodworker it'd be great for saw dust assuming you don't already have a collector. On a side note, I use saw dust to absorb most of the oil works good just keep rolling it over with a (throwaway) broom.

I don't know about water with shop vacs, I know most of them are meant to do it but disposal would be a p.i.t.a. (at least to me) vs. just brushing it down with a heavy (outdoor) broom and letting it evaporate or just letting work lights evaporate it because you gotta dump it somewhere and if it's got other stuff that's not water in there you're going to make a mess.;)

Small unit? I just got a Craftsman 5gal, 5HP wall mount. (simular to Vacmaster VWM510). Was serioulsy looking at the Shop-Vac 3942000 but longer/larger hose, was on sale & had a credit so that swayed my decision. Has the remote on/off, 21' of 1 7/8" hose. Ive a 40+year old electrolux that uses a cloth bag thats has always been shop/utility vacuum. Literally falling apart. Though picked up for general shop cleanup Ive been also using for dust/debris collection on various hand tools, stationary belt/disk sander. Having never had a practical means for tool use-or an actual shop vac (well I was given wheeled 12gal but was too big and regave it). I'm stoked.

I ended up not hanging on wall, but on sat on shelf, still having vac that just turn on verse digging out unit nice. Hose will reach outside shop, thats when the remote handy when using tools. For car etc might still need more hose but vac is portable. Been using it almost daily.

I have 2 older versions of this: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B006J3KBQK/?tag=atomicindus08-20

One is 4 hp and 1 is 5 hp. I have them mounted at opposite ends of the garage. One is between the work benches and one is by the door. They work ok. I bought an extra long hose for the one by the door so I can reach into cars in the driveway. You do need to keep the filters clean or they lose suction.

I have a 20 year old Rigid 16 Gallon unit in my shop. This vacuum has been through hell and back, done three major home remodel jobs, and keeps going like the Energizer bunny.

I have a Milwaukee industrial shop vac in the house garage.
Milwaukee-8911-rw-74218-19868.jpg

I paid $60 for it through C/L ad.
This thing is awesome for car maintenance and floor cleaning.

I have a Lowes Shop vac that I got on a black Friday special for $29.

I keep it in the basement utility room for "in house" needs.
It works fine for light duty stuff.

I agonized over this decision. Ultimately, I bought a rigid wd5000 off of the home depot website. 21 feet of hose let's me hang it on the front wall and vacuum both cars. The roll around kinds bump into the car etc while I'm using them in the garage, but I will eventually buy a wd1450. the reviews of it indicate its powerful and quiet.

The Hoover GUV is a great wall mount unit. I had one in my old garage as well...the normal color is kind of a gunmetal which was in the old garage, I had to search for a few months to find a new red one as they have been discoed for a while....you will be happy with one...and yes they are on Fleabay

I used to wear out a shop vac every year using it for my blasting cabinet. A few years ago I bought a wall mounted unit at Sears because it was on sale really cheap. I figured it was cheap, so I would destroy it on the blast cabinet. I can't believe it has outlasted others by a factor of 3 or 4 times.

Over here....
I have a very old Dayton similar to Steevo's Milwaukee, but I took it off the 5 gallon can and placed it on a 30 gallon can. I mounted it outside the garage in the covered leanto, plumbed the garage with gray PVC tubing, begged for old hoses on Craigslist and it's my whole garage vacuum system for woodworking, etc.

I also have a 5 gallon Rigid to roll around when I need to vacuum the family vehicles.

I looked at wall mounted units, but if they are inside, they are in my way. As well as being rather small and under powered.

I have the same old 6 gallon Shop Vac I purchased 20+ years ago. Originally the the motor would disconnect and double as a leaf blower but some were along the way the exhaust defuzzer got stuck on it and it has remained a faithful shop vac.
