More info:

Newer Craftsman tools also include a two digit code for the year. AA was 2011, Z was 2010, AB is 2012 and so on.

Thank you. Good information. Now that I see many codes are extended to 2011, they mean absolutely nothing to me. I know some of my tools are much, much older and some are fairly recent. To not be able to distinguish amongst them other than wear makes the codes useless.

Until I read the responses to my question, I was attempting to evaluate some tools I found. Now I don't care.
