What equipment do I need for mini-split removal and reinstallation?

As the subject says, I have a few mini-split systems to remove from one property and reinstall at another. Then, install new at the first property. Looking for recommendations on what equipment to buy - vacuum pump, manifold and anything else recommended.

Well is there any age to these units,reason for asking if they are older units they may go into cardiac arrest. A company would close valves on liquid side and pump them down then close suction side. No guarantee if they start or not, but if they won't pump down then you have a compressor problem. They may work now but may not work later, but you may also be lucky. I always hated doing what your doing which was for leasing companys

Good points! They are currently in use in my shop. I'd like to upgrade to hyper heat type units in my shop and relocate these units to another building for AC duties. I'm in the middle of nowhere, so no options for an inexpensive hvac guy to come out and do it. I'm pretty good with doing stuff, so I'm thinking I'll tackle it myself.

There is a way to "store" all of the refrigerant inside the compressor unit. Then you can cut the lines and remove everything.

If you have not done this before, I would pay a professional to re-install it. At a minimum you need a vacuum pump, a micron gauge, manifold set and thermometer.

You need vac then set gages that will work with the freon that is in units. Service wrench for service valves or maybe just some allen wrenches. Tubing cutters and small torch, few sticks of silver solder and some fittings.

Most mini splits use mechanical/flare type conections,no silver soldered joints.
A tubing cutter and flaring tool would definitely be part of the install though.
Probably easier to start with a new line set.

Understand now, never like flare fittings I always done the soldering. But flares are lot easier and quicker.

Back in the day of running service calls, those flare fittings is what keep me busy during summer time. But that was R22 systems, with the 410 systems running such a higher psi, those flares will have to be perfect and condenser not get bump any. But there is lot units out there with those flare fittings, York was big using flare fittings,but that was yrs ago
