what goes in the deep drawers?

I did not use a top box when I kept my tools at the shop, so I used the highest 4" deep drawer for sockets. Stored vertically on clip rails.
I often wished there was a box available at that time with a deep drawer higher up. It would have been easier on my back.

I know what you are saying.. I picked my box mainly because it has a 4" deep drawer as the top drawer (of the rollaway unit). It holds all the sockets vertically.
If I ever buy another box, that is what I will be looking for.

Yup the bottom three drawers of my box are completely empty and they are the deepest drawers I will fill them eventually

my bottom drawers on my KRL1003 are full of special tools like fuel pressure gauge, two transmission pressure gauge sets, u-joint press set, OTC 8 way hammer slide set (made in usa), and many things. i could post the picture if anyone want to.... i am almost full my KRL1203 and KRL1003 but i want some of drawers empty so i can put it special tools if i am become Diesel techincian for dealership to work all Cummins if i get job at Dodge dealership but i am stay at Crossroads for now...

Yes you're right, but I wanted you guys to see the drawer impromptu the way it actually was at the time this thread started; not rearranged and staged.

just like everyone else the pullers and stuff in blowmolded boxes go in the deep drawers. one of the resons for my new box purchase was also so i could have some deep drawers in the top box. like will said bending over is hard on the back. i have the most used tools in the top drawers of the rollaway for that reason.

I used to have a '78 Sedan DeVille with the 425/TH400. That pan was supposed to replace the leaky pan that was on there, but the state payed me $1000 to let them crush it. I'm still filling guilty about that because it was a good running car.

As for the big drawers. Most people put the biggest most awkward to lift stuff they have in there. Then they wonder why their backs hurt all the time.

What hurts my back the most is reaching to the back of the top drawers; they go 27" back or something like that.

When I was working ER it was the most common complaint from people in the trade. "I had my XXXX in the bottom drawer and had to get it out five times today and now my backs killing me."

When I get something out of the bottom drawer, I put my left hand on the box face next to the lock and brace myself while I retrieve the item out of the bottom drawer with my right hand; it's actually easy on my back. But like I said, reaching to the back of the top drawers can mess me up if I don't watch it. I think if I ever got another box some day, I might give some thought to the fore and aft distance.

Watch picking heavy items out of the top drawers as well you would not believe the amount of tonnage it can place on your spine and discs.

You should feel guilty. A co-worker recently did the same with a pristine '85 C-10 that needed nothing more than a carburetor to pass the smog thing.
It had lots of good parts on it, many of which I could have used on my truck. A set of Center Lines, new tires, etc. I am now facing the same dilemma. I could take the $1000 behind door #1 for my truck, but what will that buy me?
Another 300,000-mile POS?

That's all this Cadillac needed, was just a new carburetor to pass smog, but the value of the car at the time was less than $1000; so I used that money and put it towards a mint 2000 Buick LeSabre. The Buick had the original owner and only 82K on the clock; so I picked it up for $5500.
That Cadillac was built like a truck. If you put it up on a lift, you'd see shocks that look like they're off a truck; you'd see rear brake drums that look like they're off a truck; and of course the big 235/75R15 tires too. I've always wondered how that big smooth 425 V8 would've performed with gasket matched ported heads and headers.

My bottom drawer contains electric drills, jigsaw, etc. I used to keep air tools there until I got an additional smaller bottom box with a foldup cover.
The other larger drawer above the drills is for C-clamps currently.

It's a good time for you to be careful then. I first injured my back when I was about 18, throwing 10.00-20 truck tires around.
Subsequent years doing brake, suspension and alignment work finished it off, as well as my knees.
A couple of times a year, I will move wrong and end up walking around hunched over for a week or so. My left knee locks up on a regular basis, so I'm sure I will be suffering the joys of a knee replacement at some point.
The old guys in the shop were always telling us youngsters to be careful how we lifted and carried things, but of course, we didn't listen. We made jokes about the guy that wore knee pads when working down low.
I'm 45, but some days I feel like I'm 80.
So, in regard to low, deep drawers, try to keep light stuff in there or support yourself when lifting like Merkava said.

Keep the heavy stuff as close to waist level as you can. In 20 years being able to move still will be your reward.
Hanging on the edge of a fender unable to move for 20 minutes thanks to a back spasm is no fun at all.

I am 46 and only on rare occasions does my back give me any grief. I still use the deep bottom drawers for air tools and some corded electric tools and some other odds and ends. If I do not keep that stuff there it really would not fit very well in other drawers and I do want those tools in my box so I really have little choice.

Air tools and such aren't that bad. The weight is manageable. It's the guys that put metal boxes full of dollies or carry boxes full of 3/4 or 1 inch ratchet, sockets and extensions and then try to yank them out on the run that really hurt them selves.
Some of the gear and bearing sets can mess you up pretty good if you are not careful too.
