I only see this type of Vise Grip being sold by very few companies now---Vise Grip, Tekton, Harbor Freight

Have they gone defunct / no longer in use?

Or are there better options now?

Edit: I feel the need to consolidate all of my threads pertaining to pliers now. :D

I have 2 pair of vice grip brand, as well as, 2 pair of Duralast rebrands from Autozone. I couldn't tell y'all who makes them, but they've performed well for 5 yrs.

I wonder if the change of oil filter types fitted to vehicles is to blame, most new vehicle have the paper element type filter instead of the screw on canister type.

I have a couple of them, one made by visegrip and the other by eclipse, mainly get used for holding paddles on milk cooler when the agitator motor is being changed.

Out of all the current locking chain clamps which remain on the market, the Toptul one stands out the most. Check out dnschmidt's eBay listing. I don't know how Toptul does it, but their products tend to be heavily scrutinized when it comes to quality control, very impressive indeed. :)

You can also connect 2 sets together. I do this regularly with both of my different brands. At one time, Visegrip sold an extension chain for there's. I don't know if it would work with different brands or not.

:+1: There are so many alternative options out there with the advancement in pliers that they have fallen to the wayside in their size range. What I mean by that is their gripping range was pretty good, but their torque ability at the handle just wasn't there compared to a long handle chain wrench.
