Where did this excellent product go? Can't find anything online.

I was dubious for many years that such a product could be any good. Then I used it to change the color of ATV seats--I figured "nothing to lose". I was amazed how perfectly this dye performed, under the worst possible conditions. Now it's gone and the remaining brands seem to all have "meh" reviews.

3M bought Marhyde years ago and as most large companies do when they buy smaller ones reduced the product offerings. SEM makes a good Vinyl Dye. I am sure when Mar Hyde dyes were around there were lots of Meh reviews as well as people with problems are by far the most likely to post reviews.

I agree about reviewers but I look for patterns. If many are complaining about the same thing it is probably true.

If it's about something breaking then yeah I can see that but with things like chemicals or products that require a procedure to use I put zero credence in online reviews as I know from dealing with it on a daily basis 95% of the problems with these types of products are user error. Everyone "followed the instructions exactly" yet very few actually do when you really start questioning them or go and try the product yourself. You always get the same response when you make the product work "that's exactly how I did it but it didn't work for me."

Yes and no. "The dye came off on my clothes", " The dye ran when it got wet" are all plausible. While there may be a correct procedure that many are not following, a product is doomed to fail if most people cannot figure out how to make it work. I have read plenty of bad reciews that begin "I wish I had listened to all the bad reviews before I bought this. It is obvious thst some reviewers are idiots. Reviews are an imperfect tool but gathering info is an imprecice science. Company reputation, previous experience all go into making an informed purchase. I have played with many adhesives and the claimed ability to bond to certain substrates is often overly optimistic no matter how well you clean and rough it up before applying and giving it enough time or temperature or humidity to cure.

What is the exact name of the product? I looked and SEM doesn't appear to make a vinyl dye. They only make topcoats.
