What happens to all the tools that people trade in on the trucks? I read all the time that so and so traded this used wrench for that new wrench on the Snapon, Mac, Matco truck. I was wondering if any of the trucks sell the used stuff to anyone. I think anyone who is a weekend, hobby, DIY, non pro wouldn't mind having a slightly used "truck" tool that someone traded in for the latest and greatest new tool. A friend of mine sold all his tools back to the truck when he left the automotive business. What happens to them.

When I used to go on the truck (or should I say trucks; mac, matco, snapon); they would always have a "box" of used stuff you could go through and they would sell things cheap! "I got some used stuff over there"; was basically what they would say and you could rummage through it to your hearts delight! That box of "stuff" was usually the only good "deal" off of any of the trucks! Needless to say; it all depended on the dealer and what their view of them was; some would take $$ off your bill, help in the process of buying a new tool or maybe a way to "grease" the process of selling tools to everyone. Tool needs tend to change, so many people would trade in stuff they no longer used or needed to "upgrade" to a higher quality tool. For example I traded in a Harbor Freight dual action sander for a partially broken Natioal Detroit DAQ and $20 (or something like that); after replacing the main bearing (part that wobbles), I had a nice sander for $20 plus the cost of bearing and whatever I had in the HF DA, I thought I came out pretty good! That was one of the few deals I felt like I came out ahead on off the truck!

my SO dealer has a box of used tools, mostly stuff he's repo'ed from the guys who havent paid in atleast 30days. Sometimes, he'll just take it out of a guys toolbox if he has been unsuccessful in getting paid and the guy is avoiding him.

The SO dealer that I used would trade other truck brands back to the trucks that carried the brand, and take used SO stuff from then. He usually figured out a way to "warranty" it and have only new stuff on the truck. One day, he went through my entire box and pulled a whole lot that he warranted, claiming that the stuff he removed had bad chrome. I didn't care, since I got all new stuff in exchange. Never figured out how he could make money doing things like this. It did build a loyalty factor. I still have a magnet on my box that he gave me with his name and telephone number. Wonder if he is still selling SO??? The magnet is about 20 years old... Now, I can't even get a wrench warranteed for defective chrome....
