Well since it hasn't snowed at all, I've put aside my boot dryer project for a later date.

Decided to get the bikes hung higher. Current setup has two drawbacks. 1- too high to easily get them on the hooks, too low to walk under. Cannot open the truck hood or liftgate with the bikes in the way.
Neighbor has two of those cheapo pulley hoist systems that he gave me for some beers.
1st reaction- these things are ****. Cheaply made, poor quality stuff- however it is actually adequate for the job. Inexpensive is the key- I could have made my own at 50x the price. (I checked)
Ropes, lock mechanism and pulleys are cheap, but do the trick. What was the big downfall is the hooks to attach to the bike.
I have several thousand dollars worth of bikes hanging over my (hopefully) more valuable head- I don't want them falling. Plus, my kids are not going to be careful using these- so something better must be done.
