Picked up a 1958-59 Craftsman Model 150 Floor Standing DP a couple of days ago. It was very well maintained and fairly priced. A few odds and ends came with it, one of them being the casting in the attached pix. It's the same gold color as the 150 which suggests it was a Craftsman accessory. There was nothing else in the odds and ends that goes with it. I've checked both the owwm and vintagemachinery sites and looked at period-correct Craftsman catalogs to figure out what this thing is but nothing pops out at me. A search on the part number comes up goose eggs. I did see one long shot of someone's DP that had something that vaguely suggested this might be part of a table height adjusting attachment but I have no idea. I haven't seen a Craftsman catalog that shows such and option.

The part number in the casting is 35247-103. It measures 7 1/4" long, 4" wide. The round opening on the small end is 3/4" ID, 1 3/4" on the large end. There is a machined lip on the large end that suggests a bearing goes in there to support a shaft of some sort. I have no use for it but would like to find out what I've got here. Any help from the GJ gurus would be appreciated.

One of the several parts of a square-chisel mortising attachment. You also need the special spindle, chisels, fence and hold-downs.

Here are the other pieces you should look for:

Mostly the last three (Including the mortice):

Thanks Outlawmws. As usual, I went back and looked it up in the 1957 catalog and there it was. Looked right at it and didn't see it. The seller I bought the DP from got it in an estate sale of an ex-Marine officer. I'm sure a lot of the attachments and parts were buried away in a drawer somewhere and his wife had no idea what all his tools were for or what went to what. We'll never know the answer to that one.

I appreciate all your help. Learned something new today thanks to you gents.
