If the Cornwell is a "Bluepower" then it's a good powerful tool depending on condition of course. Take a portable air tank with you along with some Marvel Mystery Oil air tool, add 10 drops and run the tools with your own air supply. Other than that, any high end used impact gun is going to be a gamble no matter who you purchase it from. Find an Ebay seller with high ratings and read the feed back on them. Chances are, you'll find a good one there. If you have to have new, then you might want to look into "Aircat"

I have Snap-on MG325, I-R Titanium 1/2", Cornwell "Bluepower" 3/3" and Matco MT1745 impacts and they all run like scalded dogs. Can't say a bad word about any of them

The IR is the best. The Matco MT1745 is a rebranded IR.The Cornwell is also a rebranded IR too. Can't kill an IR,run forever and you can fix it yourself if it breaks.Parts for an IR are not cheap and inspect the anvil at least every 2 years. The anvil wears out due to use and never use a chrome socket or attachment. The chrome attachments and sockets wear out the clip holding the socket on.

thanks for all the input guys. i wish i had a northern tool close to me... the closest one is about an hour and a half with no traffic. im going to go to advance tomorrow and check out that IR they had there since its down the road from me. im still shopping around and in no hurry. i may have to make a trip to northern on my day off and see what they have in the store. whats the deal with torque. the klutch is rated at 900 max and the IR that was recommended earlier was rated at 450 i think. the klutch has twice the power if i go by that number. what do you guys think?

Do not believe all the manufacturers numbers, some take more liberties than others.

funny thing at our farm shop. we use those harbor freight impact sockets for the past ten years and the ring on our ir ir2135 got worn out and broke off so the sockets don't stay on any more

davidj,

TThe most important thing with ANY impact is feeding it lots of clean air with enough pressure behind it to make it work. An example of that is to read the reviews on the Northern tools composite wrench that I noted above. One of the guys complaining about it being down on power and listed himself as a "pro" but he had a 26 gallon compressor at 125 psi and more than likely was using a 1/4" airline.

You could run ANY impact on that rig and it will seem to be down on power. Take that same wrench with some of the other reviewers that run a good compressor with lines that are sized correctly and they are praising it for removing bolts on large trucks that they normally use a ¾ impact for.

Is the composite that I linked the equal of my MG725? No, but then again, it’s not a long way behind either. It has about the same power as my old Blue Point gun, is lighter, doesn’t freeze your hand and has taken off the crank bolts on Honda’s as well as some on the neighbor’s tractors.

All of the ones mentioned here are good impacts but for the money ($109) and the fact that you wanted a composite, that Northern gun is hard to beat.

I have the Kobalt $30 wrench I bought in a kit.

http://www.lowes.com/pd_100966-4712...currentURL=/pl__0__s?Ntt=kobalt+impact+wrench

People make fun of it on here, not sure why. It's a good impact. It has done everything I have asked it to do including taking a 30mm crank bolt off a Volvo inline 5 cylinder engine, 16 years old that spent half it's life in upstate New York rusting away. Impressive for only $30.

^^^what he said. I picked up a used MT1745 off fleaBay for $160 shipped, it rocks. It's a rebrand of the IR 2135TiMAX. Way more gun than the Craftsman you're looking at.

Do buy the IR lube kit though. You're supposed to not only put oil down the air hole daily but also occasionally grease the hammers, but nobody sells the kit, you'll have to order it online. IR 115-LBK1 is what you want I believe.

If you can't find a 2135TiMAX or MT1745 in your price range, the IR 231C isn't as strong but half the techs I know are using one anyway. It's pretty much the default shop gun as far as I can tell, and as such rebuild parts should be available for years to come, and it's not exactly wimpy.

Edit: well I see you got one, good pickup. Comments about lube kit above still stand; assuming it's IR made, it probably still requires grease for the hammers/anvil

I've been beating the snot out of my IR235TI for over 10 yrs. 5 days a week. Awesome impact but probably you'll only get a used one for 100 bucks.(if you're lucky)
