Hitachi
12" Compound Miter Saw with Laser Marker-269.00

The delta, or this one

The delta is very much underrated I think... it's a beefy miter saw with REALLY well desiged controls

The dewalt is nice because it has a tall fence and huge upright capacity, as well 8" cross cutting with a simple jig. I think dust collection is worse, and the detent override is too small.

I dont think the hitachi is that great. The controls are about average, the cast scale is hard to see and isn't adjustable, and the whole thing is styled like a ninja turtle.

Online price for the Delta is showing $297... may be a deciding factor?

My father has used Hitachi miter saws for years. Not sure if they're the same quality of today, but if they are, I would choose Hitachi.

Thanks for the replies guys. I am just interested to hear opinions on these. Th Hitachi has a 5 year warranty. It is just something else to consider.

I know that it isn't in your choice range, nor do you want to hear it, however, I am wondering why you have ruled out the DeWalt? I have the DeWalt sliding compound miter 12" saw and love it. I haven't found anything that I couldn't do with it. It is the older model that was replaced with a newer model this past year. If price is an issue, keep your eyes on Craigs List, for a used one. I have seen at least 2 of them in the past few months.

Bought my dad the delta 12" and it is a nice saw. Lowes has both the hitachi and the delta in stock. I paid 299 for the delta. I was open to both, but the delta had a better feel to it. The turn table and back drop is much beefier than the hitachi. I was skeptical about the lasers, but they are actually pretty sweet.

My advice is go look for yourself.

Thanks for the input. I was at Lowes today. I like both, but have have had a Delta 10" for 10 years and had no problems with it.

i agree junkman, i have had one for six years. still looks new and cuts great. I built my whole house and garage with it and frequently travel to friends and relatives with it.

added an Irwin laser to it for about $20..

ZRX where did you get the after market laser, I've been looking for one. I have the DW708 and their laser won't fit it, thanks in advance.
