Looking a for a good thermometer that is priced reasonably. Mainly for A/C work but would be use for heating systems occasionally. Duel measurements would be nice but not needed. Would need to do wet bulb and dry bulb measurements.

Any suggestions?

I'm an old fart now, so I like vintage stuff when I can get it.

Electronic digital pocket therms just don't hold up. Good quality analog ones include Stortz, Taylor, and Sysco. But I grab mercury bulb thermometers whenever I can. Yeah they are more fragile so you've gotta be careful during use. But they never get out of calibration, no batteries to replace, and they're the best to get wet bulb readings with.

And you can typically get them for a song at estate sales and such.

Never thought about using stem thermometers I have several of those SYSCO and Taylor ones. May have to get me a mercury bulb one.

What about the red filled, non mercury ones?
Found these on ebay:

Has anyone used a Fieldpiece ST4?

For testing freon temps in refrigerant lines, I use both a Fluke clamp and Fieldpiece clamp plus a UEI temp adaptor on an old digital multimeter. Get 1/10th of a deg accuracy - and I can still use the multimeter for electrical measurements.

For those who are afraid of mercury, there's a newer thermometer that uses another liquid metal alloy called Galvastan. Non-toxic, silvery like mercury, not too expensive.
