Hi fellas,

Is this a marking knife er what? The backside of the blade does have a slight hollow grind and each edge with a single bevel. It's 5" overall w/ 1-1/2" diameter wooden handle.

Thanks

I’m with CV, that’s a frankentool. I went through this GP catalog, and nothing has that style handle, and their bearing scrapers have 5xx Numbers. I just got two more recent screwdrivers with similar handles, unmarked, think they are the same as the next one, guess in 1950s, after GO and MF merged.

Not sure if this helps, or is irrelevant. Yesterday I picked up screwdriver with a wood handle similar to yours (but with a totally different ferrule). The marking was:

RTM, I don't know who CV is. Also, I'm at a loss in understanding who is meant by GO and MF. I did see the catalog previously to my post and do concur.

Leviton, Fulton also had drivers with a very similar handle. The ferrule on mine says, " Goodell-Pratt No.5".

Noticing the end if the ferrule on mine is mashed, maybe it is a modified tool. Just wish I knew for sure.

I noticed on the Goodell-Pratt that the pin going through the ferrule is missing which may lend itself to the idea of it being modified. Any thoughts?
Also, my original pictures did not show the top end of the handle so, I've added that here.

CV was CVAirwerks who posted a few posts above me about it being modified.

GO should have been GP = Goodell Pratt (Stupid Autocorrect & poor proofreading on my part.)

MF = Millers Falls who bought out GP in ~1930.

I looked harder at my handle that looks like Leviton's, and it only says Made in USA, not a brand, but has very similar stitching holding it on.

I have a tool at home with a Blue Point Ferrule, and hand made, not round handle, and a welded together pair of right angle screwdrivers on the same end. Passed on a box of empty ferrules at a recent garage sale, and still kicking myself for that one. Point being ferrules are very portable.

I have not seen that type of point before on any GP tools, not saying they never made that model just saying I have never seen them before. My vote would be for some kind of shop project.:dunno:
