What is a moisture barrier?

I hear all this talk about moisture barriers? Is this something that goes under the concrete before it's poured? My house is two years old. Do I have one most likely in my GARAGE?

What is a moisture barrier?

Sheating that is impervious to water, i.e., won't let water pass thru. Polyethylene plastic sheeting for example.

It would depend on your area....

Here in Arizona if you asked about a vapor barrier for your concrete they would look at you like you just came from the moon!

Haha., I'm in PA. Yes, for the garage. I'm going to do VCT tile. I think from what's I've read, it only really matters if you plan to do epoxy on your floors, as if there is moisture, it could cause them to flake overtime. For VCT it's much more resistant and shouldn't hurt it.

VCT goes down with adhesive. Adhesive is affected by moisture, so it would matter in that case, too.
