This is a clip from a restoration site. It actually has a link back to this site. I figured it was because all you could afford was Taco Bell after you bought one.

The KR-562A was designed for aircraft mechanics and being towed across the tarmac from plane to plane. The box featured a 3 sided design, a tow hook and a 5th wheel or "landing gear" as it's been called. The unique design resembles the Taco carts on the streets of Tijuana, Mexico, was produced by Snap On from '79 till the mid-late 80's and has not been replicated since.

Back in the 80s, our instrument techs referred to our 4 wheel, multiple shelf carts as Taco Carts for the same reason that unslow noted, street taco vendors.

We can’t say “taco”?
you can say taco.

The title thread said what is a "taco box".

In this context that could be the container for some food from a Mexican eatery.

If that was mentioned at a mechanic shop, "nice taco box", I suppose according to this thread that would be a type of Snap-on Box. First I've heard of this.

If a senorita is walking down the street in some tight yoga pants, the vulgar type could say to her "hey there nice taco box",

They're known as Taco Carts (even in hispanic neighborhoods) for the reasons already mentioned. While S/O ones are probably the most famous here, there are other industrial "Taco Carts", people who do pavement painting (like parking lots, turn lanes, etc.) have their own version with a thermoplastic paint heater, delivery system, and propulsion... also had a pressure washer / steam cleaner set up that was also the "taco cart" format, same idea...

Had a chance to get one, and while I use my 26" stacker as my work box, one of these are (IMO) far better than the currently available "work carts" from S/O, Mac, US General, etc...

BTW - I've heard female anatomy referred to in many ways, having worked (in the good old days) in industrial settings... and while some were rather descriptive, "taco box" was never one of them... Jus' saying, esse...

urban dictionary for taco #5

urban dictionary for box #1

They can both be used separately for the purpose. When used together you really have something vulgar. Órale !

I never really thought about why Taco Boxes were named that way, but Unslow's explanation sounds perfectly legit to me. With so many street venders on the south side of my hometown pushing food carts that look exactly like that the term fits. Minus the umbrella, of course!

I saw this Taco Box for sale and it made me think of this thread:
That looks good overall, but for the kind of money he's asking he should've fixed those dents, and the doors on the back look jacked up. 😯
