I bought this in Maine at Liberty Tool, which is a used tool store. It is a 2 1/2 by 4 NC. It says Butterfield Derby Line VT. Made in USA. Also, U 4D3.
It is about 3-4 pounds and 8 3/4in long. Pic was just taken in Photobooth. I bought it for $14 and it is quite sharp.

Any info?

Obviously some BIG equipment. What I would really like to know, is what does a machine that can spin that tap look like??

I've only been there twice. Both times I spent about 3 hours looking through every drawer.

The girl at the counter was amazed that I bought it, she said it had been there forever. Also got a gigantic tapered reamer, 2ft pipe wrench and all sorts of other stuff. Always wondered how they got that piano in the attic..

Nordberg cone crusher liners are held in with 3" studs and that 4.5" socket would be perfect for putting on the nuts for them.

If I have time later i'll post a picture of the one I have from work complete with the broken stud from when they took it off. If your wondering why I have it, its because I thought that it would be cool to one up those guys with brass balls by hanging 2 of these off the back of my truck.

They are in my box at work as they are actually used sometimes. This I couldn't ever see needing to fix a bicycle. I'll try and get pics tomorrow.

My favorite Pedro's pint glass, Dogfishhead 60min, and a Snap-On 15mm for good measure.

I have one like that (not exactly the same size), but mine is used to make threads for lathe attachments.

I'm sure large equipment. Bath Iron Works maybe? We have 3" taps at work, but they are 10 or 14 TPI.

Have a problem with those stripping out often? 3" NC (I haven't ever seen an NF) is about 3 TPI and 2.5 NC is 4 TPI so there's nothing special about the tap he has there other than it probably runs about $1000 new and he got it for $14 which is a hell of a deal. Applications that you would use it for are anything you need to put a 2.5" bolt in or mining equipment, large process equipment, power plant stuff and other fun what nots.
