It is for forging - a replacement for multiple men with sledgehammers.

So, you'd heat up iron or steel to red hot and then pound the **** out of it with that thing?

I need to get that thing bought by tomorrow. It's supposed to be 105 here. That would be a great day to try it out!

That is what you call a "power hammer" Most were powered by a huge 4 inch belt off a ceiling mounted power shaft. My dad has one in his black smith shop and has adapted the hammer to run off a small Vee belt and a 3 HP electric motor.

That might sound wimpy but once that offset wheel at the top gets spinning, watch out. It will pound the hell out of what ever you put under it.!!

You might want to swing by that guys house and see if he has any more good stuff laying around. If he has one of those, theres a good chance he has an anvil, vise, and other good tools in that garage.

Arghh, I haven't played in weeks. Wife and real life have been getting in the way. I'm getting real twitchy. She got an hour or 2 in last week and I couldn't believe how much farther along she is than me. So may words to learn...so many dragons to kill...

Sorry for the thread hijack!

Back to our regularly scheduled programming...

That thing weighs a tad more then 50 lbs. I had to move on of those things and its more like 800-900 plus pounds.

The 50 lbs is the weight of the wheel at the top or the weight of the hammer. I don't remember since its been some time since my old man explained it to me.

I don't know if you noticed, but he's asking 2 grand.

For that price, I'd have to have a use for it, which I currently don't.

Now, if I could get my wife to use the thing to forge with, as the woman is doing as shown in Larry G's video link above? I'd get it for sure. Something about that video is just **** as hell. I'm not sure why?
