The commonly used sizes from Japanese vehicles are 10, 12, 14, 17, and 19 in my experience.

13MM and 18MM are used on Fords, at least on some of the accessories I've installed.

The 'most useless tool' thread listed several uses for 16MM (2000 Dodge Ram 2500 Caliper Bracket Bolt. 2000 Ford Mustang front sway bar, European cars (especially VW-Audi Group) are riddled with them, etc.) and one for 20MM (Cadillac fuel filter).

Evidently 15MM is used for some Ford oil drain plugs.

So...what do people use an 11MM wrench or socket for?

I've used one on brake bleeders on my dad's car (either on his Mazda or his Buick) as well as on my VW.

Fords use 11mm alot more than you think. My most commonly used junkyard tool sizes on Ford vehicles are 5.5mm,7mm,8mm,10mm,11mm,13mm,14mm,15mm,16mm,18mm,and 21mm.

11mm is used mostly for body-related stuff like lights, washer resevoir, brackets, etc.

Lots of VAG (VW AUDI) vehicles use 11mms, also they are a bit smaller than 7/16ths so if you have a sketchy 7/16 bolt or one thats very tight I will use an 11 on those.

The hood from my S2000 and 2002 Civic SI had four 11mm bolts.

It separates the 10mm and 12mm in your metric socket tray...I believe it's used mostly for Fords and other foreign cars.

First thing I thought of for 11mm was brake bleeders. Glad I'm not alone. As for 13 and 15mm, I use them so often, they are about worn out. Mostly GM vehicles.

The banjo bolt that holds the front brake caliper hoses on a 2000-2005 Buick LeSabre is 11mm. Parking brake cable tension adjuster is 16mm. And the right motor mount is 18mm. :D

well when i first started as an intern a little over a year ago i realized pretty quick that GM LOVES 7,8,10, and especially 13mm, 15mm, and 18mm, however on 2009 and newer stuff ive been noticing the odd ball sizes more like 11,14,16,17. ive used an 11 on something i cant remember what though

Spedo cable retaining bolt on '89 Ranger transfer case is 11mm.

Mostly I'll use it as a 7/16 more often than not.

dont forget about some of the battery terminals on fords....honestly I would say 9mm is my least used socket, but it still gets pulled out regularly (from 8-22 anyways, 20 doesnt count)

I've used a 9mm once or twice within the past 5 years. Every other typical sized socket is used weekly.

I use an 11mm just about anytime I work on a Toyota. The absolutely needed sizes for a Toyota are 8mm, 10mm, 11mm, 12mm, 13mm, 14mm, 17mm, 19mm. And I've used everything in between at least once--all the way up to 32mm.
