I have LED strips under cabinet in the kitchen. Cost about $300 at CED, installed myself and works great. My run is longer, and its been 2 years so your price should be significantly lower.

I looked at the Juno light bars, in LED, Xenon, and Halogen. Just as expensive, and much larger of a footprint.

I have the LED undercabinet lights in my kitchen from environmentallights.com . They have all differnet length light bars and cables/connectors to allow you to place lights uniformally on the underside. Only drawback to most of these LV lights is that the wiring is not rated to be concealled in the wall. To get around around that, I wired a receptacle to a switch, then plugged in the transformer (located on top of cabinet out of sight) and ran that wire down the side of the cabinet (out of sight). This way everything is code compliant. Lots of color options, light temps, and diffusers to choose from.

I picke up a $35 set of low voltage puck lights from Menards. Stapled the wire to the bottom of the cabinet, and it just plugs into an outlet. I put some velcro on the switch to the bottom of the cabinet. I originally did it as a temporary solution, but that was almost 3 years ago and they really work well.

I'm using lowes under cabinet florescent tubes in the garage, as well as other areas in the house. They are able to be direct wired, linked or plugged directly into the wall. Features which I had trouble finding on most of the units I was looking at.

I wanted LED's, but couldn't justify the price of them.

They are the Utilitech brand.

I went with some inexpensive plug in Utilitech LED fixtures from Lowes. They're linkable, and independently switchable.

That's before I tucked the wires away under the cabinets.

LED lights are the perfect choice for under cabinet lighting, they are the best light sources in terms of:
Very low heat generation, can be used for long time without risk of overheating, represent a safer option, Durable and long lifespan, are very compact and low profile and comes in a variety of shapes and sizes, which give you more flexibility.

Tube lights - whatever was on sale when I bought them. Plugged into a switched outlet tucked up under the cabinet.
