What Is It: Crimper / Connector Type?

I've got a couple of wire stripper/crimpers, both are the same brand. What is this crimper for? I've never heard of it or seen it on any other crimpers I've had. My google fu let me down on this one. I never use the crimpers on these 2 tools, just curious is all. Thanks

Not sure what size the top notch is for, but big fellows. The 16-10 is the wire gauge size you use that notch for.

Haha, uh, I'm familiar with what crimp connectors & wire gauge sizes are.

It's the 310.311, 410.411 that I'm curious about & has got me stumped.

They're a style of uninsulated crimp connector for joining two or more wires.
310 and 311 are plain copper.
410 and 411 are zinc-plated steel.

Yup, these 2 strippers/crimpers in question are Gardner Bender. So it seems those numbers are for GB's crimp connectors. Looks like the generic term for that style of uninsulated connector is "crimp sleeve".

But now I'm curious when would you use uninsulated crimp sleeves & why do they make em in copper & steel?

Not important really as I'll probably never run into using them. But at least now I know what those numbers mean & what the connectors look like.

I am not an Electrician but my guess is for crimping together ground pigtails in a receptacle or similar box.

Uninsulated sleeves if you're going to cover them with shrink wrap.

Ok, whew. You had me worried at first. Circle it or call it out in the text next time, so I can admit I don’t know either, and just stay quiet. But I know people (none here) that don’t know that kinda stuff.

Yeah, that's the only place I've seen them. You leave one of the two or three (bare copper) ground wires you're joining longer than the others so it comes in one side of the sleeve and exits the other, and connect that one's 'tail' to the ground screw on the receptacle. It's a nice clean way to join multiple devices to a common ground.
