Found this in my late father-in-law stuff. Its a machine part, about 10 x 10 inches or so. Its marked COVEL MFG Co Benton Harbor Mich. Notice the sides of the base are beveled like it slides into a track of some sort, sort of like a tool holder on a lathe. Also, notice, the left end of the shaft has reverse threads and two threaded collars for taking all of the end play out of the assembly. The other end of the shaft takes some sort of circular tool, like a grinder or saw blade. The bearings are poured babbitt. Also notice the shaft is not square with the slides, when this piece is moved the blade moves at an angle, maybe 10-12 degrees. I have a couple of ideas but don't want to contaminate your thought process. Anybody know or can make a guess what this is from ??? thanks

Yes, its turned with a wide flat belt and does appear to be able to secure a saw blade or grinding wheel. The two cups are indeed grease cups.

Covel, in my understanding, made grinding machines. I had a Covel surface grinder for a while.

The built-in angle may have been to produce a rake on the cutting edge of something.

+1 on it being for a grinder. Ran a couple of Covel surface grinders in shops I've worked at. The dovetail base suggests it was part of another machine and not just some remote spindle. May have been an attachment or all that's left of the original machine.
