A buddy of mine from work who has a penchant for picking up some of the oddest and obscure tools has brought a mystery to me.

Most times, he's able to identify his finds via his own expansive knowledge base or at times he uses the all-powerful interwebs and social media as an assist.

This time, he's stumped!!

It's an extension of sorts that would more than likely be secured in Jacobs chuck or a purpose designed socket. I has a spring loaded sleeve that when pulled back towards the chuck end, allows the head (which is cross-pinned) to swivel. The business end is a socket that would fit over a bolt head. The socket end also exhibits high-speed use indicated by the circumferential wear marks. The only tools marking are "Dayton - Ohio" and what looks like the remainder of "1/2".

Anybody have any ideas?

Dewalt has similar ones as nut driver bits for 1/4 inch drive. I have a set they are great for screws you cannot get on straight. Work great straight and then pull back sleeve to work with built in universal.
